Note. Carry out the work with the rear wheels off the ground (on a lift or vehicle jacked up). The parking brake lever must be pushed all the way down (the car is disinhibited).
You will need: wheel bolt wrench, socket head «at 30», mounting blade (two), caliper.
1. Engage 1st gear and place chocks under the front wheels.
2. Remove the rear wheel trim (see «Wheel replacement»).
3. Using a thin chisel and a hammer, carefully press the protective cap out of the hub...
4....and remove it.
5. Loosen the hub nut and wheel bolts.
6. Hang out a back wheel and establish a back part of the car from a removed drum on a support. Remove the rear wheel.
7. Make sure the parking brake lever is pushed all the way down (the car is disinhibited).
8. Turn away a nut of a back nave...
Attention! Do not reuse the hub nut.
9.... and remove the brake drum together with the bearing from the hub trunnion.
Note. The brake drum is made in one piece with the rear hub.
10. Measure the diameter of the working surface with a caliper. If the diameter exceeds the maximum allowable, the drum must be replaced.
Attention! Replace brake drums in pairs (left and right at the same time).
11. Check up ease of rotation and lack of backlashes of the bearing of a nave. Replace bearing if necessary (see «Replacing the rear hub bearing»).
Attention! Do not press the bearing out of the brake drum unless absolutely necessary. A dismantled bearing cannot be reused.
12. Similarly, remove and check the right brake drum.
13. When installing the old drum, use a file to remove the shoulder on the working surface of the drum, formed as a result of wear.
14. Reset the gap adjuster (see point 21 «Replacing the brake pads of the brake mechanism of the rear wheel»).
15. Reduce the brake pads with two mounting blades.
16. Install the drum in the reverse order of removal. Finally tighten the hub nut to 175 Nm (17.5 kgf·m).
Attention! It is forbidden to move the car with the hub nut loose, as this will damage the bearing cage.
17. Adjust the clearance between the brake shoes and the drum by pressing the brake pedal 10-15 times. Each time you press it, you should hear the knob click. As soon as the clicks stop, this means that the gap is set.
18. Press the protective cap into the hub.
19. Install the wheel and decorative cap (see «Wheel replacement»).
20. Check the ease of rotation of the wheel. Easy touching of the drum on the pads is allowed.
