First shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. After the failure "Renault Megane" the second generation in Europe, the company decided to release the "Fluence" externally different from the third generation "Megane", but technically based on the chassis "Megane Estate" with a 6-centimeter longer wheelbase. Trim levels were "Expression", "Business", "Dynamic" and "Privilege". Renault Fluence is also sold under the brand "Renault Samsung SM3" second generation, the first generation of which has been produced from 2003 to the present.
There were three modifications of petrol engines with a volume of 1.6 liters (1598 cm³, K4M) 110 hp, 1.6 liters (1598 cm³, H4M) with a capacity of 115 hp and 2.0 liters (1997 cm³, M4R) 140 hp. All four-cylinder in-line engines. The diesel engine was only 1.5 liters (1461 cm³, DCi) with a capacity of 85, 90, 95, 105 and 110 hp. The transmission is a six- or five-speed manual, six-speed automatic or continuously variable transmission (CVT).
In 2009, an electric car was introduced "Fluence ZE", which began to be produced in 2011 and is still being produced. It is equipped with a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery and a synchronous motor with a torque of 226 Nm. The car's driving range with a fully charged battery is 160 kilometers.
Since 2012, the car has undergone a restyling, which was demonstrated at the Istanbul Motor Show. The radiator grille was updated, projector headlights became standard, and other minor changes were made. In 2015, another restyling was carried out with updated taillights.
As of today, "Renault Fluence" there are the following competitors and classmates - Chevrolet Cruze, Chery Bonus, Citroen C4, Daewoo Gentra, FAW Besturn B50, Ford Focus, Haima M3, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Kia Ceed, Lada Vesta, Mazda 3, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Almera, Opel Astra, Peugeot 301 (2012), Skoda Octavia, SEAT Leon, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf.
