Production began in June and sales began in September 2004. In 2007, production began in India in cooperation with Mahindra, where the car quickly gained popularity. It is based on the Dacia B0 platform, which is also used for "Renault Duster", "Renault Kaptur", "Renault Sandero", "Lada XRAY", "Lada Largus" and "Nissan Kicks". The body was produced as a four-door sedan (wheelbase 2630 mm, length 4288 mm, width 1740 mm, height 1534 mm), five-door station wagon (wheelbase 2905 mm, length 4473 mm, width 1740 mm, height 1640 mm) or a van (wheelbase 2900 mm, length 4450 mm, width 1740 mm, height 1640 mm) and a two-door coupe/pickup (length 4496 mm, width 1735 mm, height 1554 mm). The diesel engine had a capacity of 1.5 liters (1461 cm³, K9K, SOHC 8v, 65/68/86 hp). The gearbox was either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.
Four trim levels and options were available "Ambiance", "Preference", "Laureate" and "Ambition". The first level included a driver's airbag, body-colored bumpers and electric door locks. The second trim level added a passenger airbag, power steering, electric front windows, a radio and two rear headrests.
