Renault 19 (1988-1996)
Renault 19 - compact family car (C-segment) French automaker «Renault», produced from 1988 to 1996, and in Argentina and Turkey until 2000. Came to replace «Renault 9 and 11», which have been in production since 1981. The body was in the form of a sedan, hatchback and convertible. The motor is located in front transversely, front-wheel drive. It was the best-selling foreign car in Germany in 1989 and 1990. The car was assembled in robotic factories and about 5.9 million copies were produced for the entire time. It was the last car with a numerical name. In 1995 it was replaced by «Renault Megane».
At one time, the competitors of this car were Alfa Romeo 33, Citroen ZX, Daewoo Nexia, Fiat Tipo/Tempra, Ford Escort V, Ford Orion, Honda Civic IV, Honda Concerto, Lancia Delta, Mazda 323, Nissan Sunny, Opel Kadett E, Opel Astra F, Peugeot 309/306, Rover 200 II, Seat Cordoba, Volkswagen Golf II and Volvo 440/460/480.
In November 1984, a project appeared «X53», which was focused on creating a reliable sedan with a new level of comfort and safety. Computers played a very important role in the development of the project with the first 3D models and the first digitally controlled machines. A technological breakthrough in the 1980s allowed the design, testing, and modification of a part before it was even manufactured. For this new model «Renault» is also developing three new modern engines, two gasoline (1.4 liters «E-type» and 1.7 liters «F-type») and one diesel.
Renault 19 was produced with connecting body types. Four-door sedan «Chamade» 4248 mm long, 1676 mm wide, 1415 mm high and curb weight 948 kg. Three-door hatchback with a length of 4156 mm, a width of 1684 mm, a height of 1365 mm and a curb weight of 930 kg. Five-door hatchback with a length of 4156 mm, a width of 1676 mm, a height of 1412 mm and a curb weight of 904 kg. Also after 1991 there was a two-door convertible body. The wheelbase of all cars was 2540 mm.

The diesel engine was 1.9 liters (1870 cm3, F8Q, SOHC 8v) 63 HP (atmospheric) or 89 hp (turbocharged). The gearbox was a five-speed manual, as well as a three- or four-speed automatic.
In the summer of 1992, an updated model was introduced with a significantly redesigned front and rear, while left-hand drive versions received a new dashboard and interior, while right-hand drive versions retained the old design. Gasoline engines were also updated - the carburetor was replaced with a fuel injection system.
Renault 19 was awarded the title «Car of the Year 1989» in Spain and Germany, «Car of the Year 1990» in Ireland and «Car of the Year 1993» in Argentina.
