Note. The engine is very heavy, so we recommend removing it with helpers.
Attention! When removing and installing an engine with a large mass, use only fully serviceable lifting mechanisms designed for the appropriate load, and especially carefully control the correctness and reliability of connecting cables, traverses, etc. to the transport eyes of the engine.
1. For convenience, remove the hood (see «Removal and installation of a cowl»).
2. Reduce the pressure in the supply system (see «Reducing the pressure in the power system»).
3. Remove the air filter (see «Removal and installation of the air filter»).
4. Disconnect the wires from the battery and remove it from the car (see «Removing and installing the battery»).
5. Remove the crankcase protection and engine splash guards (see «Removal and installation of mudguards and engine crankcase protection»).
6. Drain the liquid from the cooling system (see «Coolant replacement»).
7. If you remove the engine for repair, drain the oil from the oil sump (see «Changing engine oil and oil filter»).
8. Remove the exhaust system (see «Replacement of elements of system of release of the fulfilled gases»), since its downpipe prevents the engine from lowering down.
9. Disconnect the wiring harness pads:
- from nozzles;
- throttle position sensors, absolute pressure, coolant temperature, intake air temperature;
- idle controller.
Note. The operations listed in clause 9 are described in subsection «Replacing the cylinder head gasket».
10. Disconnect harness connectors from power steering pump pressure sensor (see «Power steering pump replacement»)...
11.... ignition module...
12.... top dead center sensor...
13.... oxygen concentration sensor in exhaust gases...
14....knock sensor...
15.... oil pressure sensor...
16....speed sensor...
17.... and a reverse light switch.
18. Disconnect from the gearbox two «massive» wires by unscrewing the bolts of their fastening.
19. Disconnect the wires from the generator (see «Removal and installation of the generator»)...
20....and starter (see «Removal and installation of a starter»).
21. Remove the engine harness from the holders on the engine (see «Replacing the cylinder head gasket») and take him aside.
22. Disconnect the front end of the throttle cable from the intermediate lever on the intake pipe and from the bracket on the engine (see «Throttle Cable Replacement»).
23. Disconnect the canister purge hose from the inlet pipe...
24.... and a hose to the vacuum brake booster by squeezing the latches of its fastening.
25. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel rail (see «Replacing the cylinder head gasket»).
26. Disconnect hoses from nozzles of the thermostat, a head of the block of cylinders and a water distribution pipe.
27. Remove the heater hoses from the holders on the bracket and move them aside.
28. Turn out a bolt of fastening of the holder of a hose of a purge of an adsorber...
29.... and take the hose to the side.
30. Turn out a bolt of fastening to the engine of the holder of the pipeline of system of the hydraulic booster of a steering.
31. Turn out bolts of fastening of the compressor of the conditioner to an arm...
32.... and, without disconnecting the pipelines from it, take it aside and secure it in any way possible (e.g. tying with wire).
33. Similarly, disconnect the power steering pump from the engine (see «Power steering pump replacement»).
34. Disconnect the gearbox control rod...
35.... and the front end of the clutch release cable (see «Replacing and adjusting the clutch release cable»).
36. Disconnect the front wheel drives from the gearbox (see «Removal and installation of front wheel drives»).
37. Remove the subframe (see «Removal and installation of a stretcher»).
38. Attach the slings of the lifting mechanism to the front...
39.... and rear transport eyes and tighten the straps.
40. Remove the right and left suspension mounts of the power unit (see «Replacing the suspension bearings of the power unit»).
Note. The rear suspension support of the power unit was removed along with the subframe.
41. Check again that all wires, hoses and attachments are disconnected from the engine.
42. Lower the engine down to the floor.
43. Hang the front of the car (raise the car on a lift) to a height sufficient to remove the power unit from under the vehicle, and place reliable supports under the body.
44. Remove the engine from under the car.
45. Install the engine and all removed components and parts in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the power unit, clean the threaded holes for fastening its supports with a tap;
- be sure to replace the exhaust pipe gasket with a new one;
- when connecting wires and pipelines, carefully monitor their correct location in the engine compartment, avoiding contact with heating and moving elements of the power unit.
After installing the engine, do the following.
1. Fill with oil (see «Changing engine oil and oil filter»).
2. Fill the gearbox with oil.
3. Fill with coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
4. Adjust the tension of the accessory drive belt (see «Checking the tension of the accessory drive belt»).
5. Adjust throttle actuator (see «Throttle cable adjustment»).
6. Start the engine and check for fuel, oil and coolant leaks. Check oil pressure. Listen to the engine, it should run smoothly, without extraneous noise and knocks.
