Health check
1. A load-sensing pressure control valve is embedded in the hydraulic line of each rear brake. The valve is attached to the bottom of the car and is connected to the rear axle. The valve determines the load received by the rear axle by its displacement and prevents the rear brakes from locking during heavy braking.
2. Special equipment is required to check the valve for proper operation, so this work should be entrusted to a Renault workshop. The valve cannot be repaired and if it is defective it must be replaced.
Attention! On models equipped with ABS, before unscrewing the brake pipe connectors, disconnect the ground cable from the battery and do not connect it until you have bled the system. If this is not done, air may enter the hydraulic unit, which is very difficult to (in some cases not possible) pump.
Removing
1. Minimize fluid loss by placing a piece of polyethylene under the master cylinder reservoir cap.
2. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
3. Wipe the area around the brake pipe couplers on the valve and place a rag under the couplers to catch the fluid that will be released. To avoid mixing up the valve ports during installation, mark them relative to the tubing.
4. Loosen the union nuts and separate the brake pipes from the valve. Seal the ends of the pipes and valve openings to minimize brake fluid loss and prevent dirt from entering the system. Rinse spilled liquid with cold water.
5a. Turn away bolts of fastening.
5b. Then disconnect the valve rod and remove the assembly from under the car (refer to illustrations).
Note. Do not loosen the link clamp bolt - this will change the length of the link and require valve adjustment during installation.
Installation
1. Bring the valve assembly into position and tighten the mounting bolts.
2. Install the brake pipes in the couplings on the valve and tighten the connecting nuts as shown in Specifications effort.
3. Attach the valve rod with brackets and lower the vehicle to the ground.
4. If a new valve assembly is being installed, note that it has a special spacer to adjust the rod length. Achieve Rated Rear Axle Load (the car rests on the wheels, the fuel tank is full and a person is sitting in the driver's seat), loosen the linkage clamp bolt and allow the valve spring to set the linkage length. Tighten the clamp bolt securely and remove the spacer from the linkage.
5. Remove the polyethylene from under the cover of the reservoir of the main cylinder and bleed the entire brake system as described in Section Bleeding the hydraulic system of the brakes.
