Removing
1. The rear brake assemblies are connected to the hand brake lever with two cables. Each cable can be removed separately as follows.
2. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
3. To gain access to the base of the handbrake lever, unscrew the fixing nuts/bolts and remove the thermal insulation of the exhaust system.
4. Remove the rear brake pads as described in Section Replacing the rear brake pads.
5. Disconnect the end of the cable and release the cable from the drum brake support plate (refer to accompanying illustration).
6. Moving along the cable and noting its location, release it from all brackets and ties (refer to accompanying illustration). Separate the front end of the cable from the equalizer plate, then separate the tip of the cable housing from the vehicle body and remove the cable.
Installation
1. Install in reverse order, using the marks made during removal. Before installing thermal insulation, adjust the cable length as described in Section Handbrake adjustment.
