Useful advice. Some drivers, trying to wear out the parking brake cables less, try to use it less often. Such "savings" lead to the opposite result: the cables, rarely moving in the casings, gradually lose mobility, eventually jam and break. Use the parking brake in all cases when it is necessary.
You will need: all the tools to remove the brake drum (see "Removal and installation the brake drum") and the brake pads of the rear wheel (see "Replacing the brake pads of the rear wheel brake mechanism"), lining of the body floor tunnel (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining"), as well as a 13 mm key.
Note: The rear cable replacement is shown using the left cable as an example. The right rear cable is replaced in a similar manner.
To replace the rear parking brake cable, follow these steps:.
1. Completely loosen the tension of the parking brake drive cables by unscrewing the drive adjusting nut to the end of the threaded end of the front cable (see item 3 "Adjusting the parking brake drive").
2. Remove the brake drum from the side of the cable being replaced (see "Removal and installation the brake drum").
3. Remove the rear brake shoe (see "Replacing the brake pads of the rear wheel brake mechanism") and disconnect the cable end from the release lever by pressing the cable spring forward with pliers.
4. Use pliers to squeeze the cable sheath retainer...
5. ...and remove the cable from the hole in the brake shield.
6. Remove the cable from the holder on the rear suspension beam arm.
7. Pull the cable slightly into the passenger compartment and disconnect it from the equalizer by removing the cable end from the equalizer groove.
Note: The floor tunnel lining was removed during the process of releasing the drive cables (see above p. 1).
8. Pull the cable out of the hole in the base of the body from below and remove it from the car.
Helpful Hint: If the cable is difficult to move in the sheath after being removed from the vehicle, lubricate it. Pour engine or transmission oil into the sheath until it starts to flow out of the opposite end of the sheath. While pouring, periodically move the cable in the sheath.
9. Install the rear parking brake cable and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
To replace the front parking brake cable, follow these steps:.
1. Completely loosen the tension of the parking brake drive cables by unscrewing the drive adjusting nut to the end of the threaded end of the front cable (see item 3 "Adjusting the parking brake drive").
2. Disconnect both rear drive cables from the equalizer by removing the cable ends from the equalizer slots.
3. Cut the floor mat at the rear of the lever and move the mat sections to the sides.
Note: The floor mat must be cut to gain access to the lower portion of the parking brake lever without removing the front seats and floor mat completely. The cut portion of the mat will not be visible as it is covered by the floor tunnel trim.

4. Completely unscrew the adjusting nut from the threaded end of the cable...
5. ...and, pulling the cable back from the slot in the parking brake drive lever sector, remove the cable assembly with the equalizer.
6. Install the front parking brake cable and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
After replacing any of the cables, adjust the parking brake drive (see "Adjusting the parking brake drive").
