Checking the serviceability and overhauling the vacuum pump (diesel engines) (Renault Megane 1)

1. The operation of the vacuum pump can be checked using a vacuum gauge.

2. Disconnect the vacuum tube from the pump and connect the vacuum gauge and the pump coupling using a piece of hose.

3. Start the engine and let it idle, then measure the pressure created by the pump (after one minute of starting it should be approximately 500 mmHg.). If the value registered is significantly higher, the pump is probably faulty. Contact your Renault service station for advice.

4. It is impossible to overhaul the vacuum pump, because its individual components are not available for sale. If the pump is faulty, replace it.
