Attention:
To avoid permanent damage to the front hub bearing:
- Do not loosen or tighten the drive shaft nut when the vehicle wheels are on the ground.
- Do not place the vehicle with its wheels on the ground with the drive shaft loose or removed.
Removing the front wheel bearing
1. Place the vehicle on a two post lift.
2. Remove the front wheel from the vehicle on the appropriate side.
3. Remove the front wheel sensor.
4. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the brake caliper assembly without disconnecting the brake hose. Hang the brake caliper on the vehicle body with a wire to prevent the brake hose from stretching under the weight of the brake caliper.
5. Remove the front brake disc.
6. Remove the steering knuckle from the car.
7. With press, compound puller (2) and tubes with an outer diameter of 36.5 mm, press the front wheel hub out of the steering knuckle.
8. Remove retaining ring.
9. Using a compound puller, remove the inner sleeve from the hub.
Note: Place the arms of the compound puller in the grooves of the inner sleeve.
10. Press out the bearing by applying pressure to its inner ring using a tube with an outer diameter of 65 mm.
Note: Do not apply pressure to the sensor body (if available on vehicle).
Installing the front wheel bearing
1. Using a cleaning agent, clean:
- inner and outer surfaces of the bearing in contact with the steering knuckle and hub;
- surfaces of the steering knuckle in contact with the bearing;
- hub surfaces in contact with the bearing.
Caution: To avoid damage to the bearing, do not apply pressure to the inner race of the bearing.
2. To check up a condition of surfaces of a nave and a nest of a rotary fist in places of contact with the bearing.
3. Replace any components whose contact surfaces are deeply scratched or cracked.
Caution: To ensure proper functioning of the wheel sensor, do not apply sensor marks on the bearing.
4. Place the impulse disk on the inside of the bearing (3) (from the side of the car).
5. Press in the outer ring of the bearing using a tube with an outer diameter of 70 mm.
6. Install the bearing circlip.
7. Press in the hub using a 50mm OD tube, applying pressure to the bearing inner race.
5 Subsequent installation in the reverse order of removal.
Attention: To avoid accidents, after installing the brake components, it is necessary to bring the brakes to readiness by depressing the brake pedal several times.
