Removal (work performed on the wheel side)
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.
Remove the xenon headlight corrector sensor rod (if they are installed).
Remove the left front wheel.
Tighten the hub nut using the tool (Rou. 604-01).
Disconnect the wire connector from the wheel speed sensor.
Loosen the nut securing the ball joint pin of the steering rod end.
Remove:
- ball joint of the steering rod end from the steering knuckle using the device (Tav. 476);
- nut for fastening the upper hinge pin of the anti-roll bar;
- suspension arm ball joint mounting bolt.
Move the drive shaft away from the steering knuckle by turning the steering knuckle.
Remove the splined shank of the outer joint of the shaft from the hub.
Work performed on the wheel side
Drain the oil from the gearbox.
Disconnect the wheel drive shaft from the gearbox.
Note: Check the condition of the differential flange seal seat and replace it if necessary.
Without removing the protective cover, apply MOLYKOTE BR2 grease to the splines of the inner joint tailstock.
Insert the splined shank of the inner joint of the shaft into the axle gear.
Connect the wheel drive shaft to the hub.
The shaft tail must freely enter the gear to a length sufficient to tighten the hub nut.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten to the specified torque:
- wheel mounting bolts (110 Nm);
- hub nut (280 Nm);
- nut for fastening the ball joint pin of the steering rod end (37 Nm);
- nut for fastening the ball joint pin of the suspension arm (62 Nm);
- nut for fastening the ball joint pin of the anti-roll bar (44 Nm);
- intermediate support mounting bolts (44 Nm).
Fill the gearbox with oil and bring its level to the norm.
