Removing the front subframe
1. Place the vehicle on a two post lift.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal
3. Remove the steering gear universal joint bolt
4. Remove the front wheels from the vehicle.
5.Remove the engine protection tray.
6. Remove the front fenders.
7. Remove the lower bolts securing the front bumper to the subframe.
8. Tie the radiator of the cooling system to the front upper cross member of the body.
9. Loosen the upper bolts of the subframe struts.
10. Remove the lower ball joints from the steering knuckles using a special puller.
Note: If the ball joint is stuck in the steering knuckle, a pry bar can be used to release it (1), inserted under the steering knuckle as shown.
11. Unbolt the power steering pipes from the subframe.
12. Remove the power unit support bolts from the subframe.
13. Replace the subframe mounting bolts with special threaded rods (Tav. 1747).
14. Lower the subframe by 20 cm.
15. Remove the pressure sensor mount in the particulate filter.
16.Disconnect the particle filter temperature sensor connector.
17. Loosen the bolt (1) exhaust pipe mounting sleeve.
18. Remove the bolts securing the steering gear to the subframe.
19. Fix the steering gear on the car body.
20. Place a support for removing / installing the engine with the gearbox (Mot. 1390) under the stretcher
21. Lower the lift and adjust the slats to make sure the subframe is locked into place.
22. Lower the subframe on the threaded rods.
23. Tie the subframe to the support for removing / installing the engine with the gearbox (Mot. 1390).
24. Raise the car with a lift to disconnect the subframe from the body.
25. Remove the subframe mounts.
Installing the front subframe
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- Degrease the contact surfaces of the subframe and body with a suitable cleaning agent.
Caution: To prevent overheating of surrounding components, be careful not to damage the heat shield. If the heat shield is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one.
- Check and adjust wheel alignment.
