Attention! Keep dirt out of the fuel system.
Note. Removing the fuel hoses requires a Renault Mot tool. 1311-06.
1. Drain the liquid content of the fuel filter.
2. Disconnect the wiring connector from the filter head.
3. Disconnect the fuel supply hoses from the top of the filter assembly and plug the couplers to keep dirt out and minimize air intrusion into the system.
4. Two types of filters are installed - Lucas or Bosch. Lucas filters have a separate filter element installed in the filter housing.
For better access, unscrew the nuts securing the filter head to the body and replace the filter element on a workbench.
Loosen the pinch bolt at the top of the filter head and carefully remove the filter housing. Note the location of the different seals - on the Lucas filter, the pinch bolt has o-rings above and below the filter head, while on Bosch filters there is only one seal.
5. Pay attention to the correct installation and remove the filter element from the filter, then clean the housing using a clean (lint-free) rag. Remove all o-rings.
6. Lubricate new seals with clean diesel fuel when reassembling. Make sure the drain cock is secure and install a new filter element. Be sure to install the new o-rings correctly. Fill the filter housing with clean diesel fuel and carefully screw it onto the filter head.
7. Connect the fuel supply hoses to the filter, then connect the fuel heating wiring.
8. Bleed the fuel system as described in Chapter Power systems, release.
