Note. It is more convenient to perform work on a lift. You can also perform it on a car mounted on supports. The replacement of the tip is shown on the example of the left side rod, replace the right tip in the same way. The thread of the left tip is right-handed, and the right tip is left-handed.
1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on the side of the tip to be replaced. Remove the wheel.
Attention! Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and place wheel chocks under the rear wheels («shoes»).
Note. If fasteners are heavily soiled, clean them with a wire brush and treat with a light penetrating lubricant such as WD-40.
2. Turn away a nut of fastening of a finger of the hinge to the lever of a rotary fist, keeping a finger from turning.
3. Install the ball joint remover and press the pin out of the pivot arm boss.
Note. In the absence of a puller, the ball joint pin can be knocked out with sharp hammer blows on the end face of the pivot arm boss, striking along the axis of the lever.
4. Remove the pin from the pivot arm boss.
5. Loosen the tie rod end locknut.
6. Mark position of a tip of steering draft that at installation of a new tip if possible not to break a convergence of wheels.
7. Unscrew the tip from the steering rod, counting the number of revolutions, so that when installing a new tip, if possible, do not change the convergence of the wheels. If necessary, hold the pull on the flats against turning with a key (shown by arrow).
8. Install a new tip in the reverse order of removal, screwing it onto the steering rod by the number of revolutions calculated during removal (the tip must be screwed up to the applied mark). Locknut tightening torque 50 Nm (5.0 kgf·m), tie rod ball joint pin nuts 37 Nm (3.7 kgf·m).
9. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment at a service station.
