7.2. Strut strut details: 1 - shock absorber; 2 - compression buffer with a protective cover; 3 - spring; 4 - the upper plate of the spring; 5 - support bearing; 6 – the top support of a rack; 7 - shock absorber rod nut; 8 - thrust washer; 9 – a nut of the top fastening of a shock-absorber rack
You will need: key «at 27», hex key «for 6», Spring Compressor.
1. Remove shock absorber (pic. 7.2) from the car (see «Removal and installation of a shock-absorber rack»).
2. Install the spring compressor and compress the spring.
3. Unscrew the stem nut, holding the stem from turning with a second wrench...
4....and remove it.
5. Remove the top support...
6....thrust bearing...
7....upper spring cup...
8....spring...
Note. Replace springs only in pairs (right and left at the same time).
9....and a compression buffer with a protective cover.
10. Install the rack vertically and lower and raise the shock absorber rod several times until it stops. Make sure that the stem moves without dips, jams and knocks. Otherwise, replace the stand. Also, replace it if the threads on the top of the stem are damaged.
Attention! Shock absorber struts should only be replaced in pairs (right and left at the same time).
11. Replace the compression stroke buffer if it or the protective boot is damaged.
12. Replace the top support in case of severe deformation or local buckling of the rubber array.
13. Replace the thrust bearing if it is corroded, has axial movement in the housing, or seizes when turning.
14. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Tightening torque of shock absorber rod nut 62 Nm (6.2 kgf·m).
Note. When installing the spring, make sure that the end of the lower coil rests against the special protrusion of the lower spring cup.
15. Tighten the top nut of the rack with the vehicle on the ground to a torque of 44 Nm (4.4 kgf·m). The moment of an inhaling of bolts of fastening of a rotary fist to a rack of 105 Nm (10.5 kgf·m).
Note. After replacing the front shock absorber strut or its parts, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment (see «Checking and adjusting wheel alignment»), especially if new parts have been installed. Use the services of workshops with special equipment.
