Removal
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.
Unlock the steering wheel.
Remove the front wheel.
Mark the position of the cap on the shock absorber strut using a permanent pencil (1).
Disconnect:
- wire harness (2) of the wheel speed sensor from the brake hose mount,
- cap (3) of the brake hose bracket.
Remove:
- brake hose bracket mounting bolt (4),
- brake hose mounting bracket.
Loosen the nut (5) of the ball joint pins of the anti-roll bar struts on the shock absorber strut.
Loosen the bolts (7) securing the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle.
Remove the lower end of the shock absorber strut from the steering knuckle by pressing on the steering knuckle.
Secure the steering knuckle to the body.
Remove:
- the nut securing the shock absorber strut to the cup using a hex key and an open-end wrench,
- cup (8),
- shock absorber strut assembly with spring.
Install suitable jaws onto the spring compressor and install the compressor onto the spring.
Compress the spring until it comes away from the cups.
Loosen the shock absorber rod nut using a hex key and open-end wrench.
Separate the parts that make up the shock absorber strut assembly with the spring.
Installation
If necessary, replace faulty upper support components.
Parts that must be replaced:
- front shock absorber rod nut,
- filter element,
- anti-roll bar strut ball joint pin fastening nut,
- lower nut of the front shock absorber mounting.
Clamp the spring compressor in a vice.
Place the spring into the groove of the cup.
Observe the order and direction of installation of parts.
Tighten the inner nut of the shock absorber strut rod to the required torque (62 Nm).
Unload the spring.
Remove the compressor from the spring.
Install:
- shock absorber strut assembly with spring,
- the upper support of the shock absorber strut (8) using a hex key and a spanner,
- shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.
Tighten to the specified torque:
- shock absorber strut mounting nut to the body (44 Nm),
- bolts for fastening the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle (105 Nm).
Install the brake hose bracket.
Tighten the brake hose mounting bolt to the specified torque (8 Nm).
Secure the brake hose plug to the bracket.
Attach the speed sensor to the bracket.
Install the front wheel.
