- engage reverse gear (or set the selector lever to position "P");
- raise the rear of the vehicle and place safety supports under the body;
- remove the wheel from the desired side and release the parking brake completely;
- raise the rear trailing arm slightly with a jack to relieve the shock absorber;

- unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt (Fig. 5.12);

- in the luggage compartment, remove the cap of the upper shock absorber support, unscrew the nut and remove the rubber cushion (Fig. 5.13);
- remove the shock absorber from the car;
- check the condition of the shock absorber as described for the front suspension. If damage is found, replace the shock absorber.
Installation procedure:
- when installing a new shock absorber, pump it thoroughly several times (if the shock absorber was in a horizontal position);
- install the shock absorber in place, tightening its fastening elements by hand;
- perform the remaining operations in the reverse order of removal;
- lower the car;
- pump the suspension several times and tighten the shock absorber mounts to the specified torque.
