Removing
Place the car on a two post lift.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the right front wheel.
Install Engine Support Tool (Mot. 1453) with a tether strap and use the lifting eye on the timing side as an attachment point.
Mark the position of the engine pendulum mount relative to the body.
Remove:
- right pendulum suspension support,
- camshaft position sensor (1),

Remove:
- bolt (3) fastening the upper cover of the timing drive,
- top cover of the timing drive by depressing the three tabs (2).
Release three latches (4).
Remove the lower timing cover.
Remove:
- fastening bolts (5) right pendulum suspension support on the cylinder head,
- the right support of the pendulum suspension.
Unscrew the hole plug for the TDC lock (6) using a 14 mm Tox head.
Turn the engine crankshaft so that the hole (7) in the camshaft pulley it turned out almost opposite the hole (8) in the cylinder head.
Screw fixture (Mot. 1489) (9) into the cylinder block.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise without jerking (from the timing drive) all the way to (Mot. 1489).
Paste (Mot. 1430) (10) into the holes of the camshaft pulley and cylinder head.
Remove:
- adaptation (Mot. 1430),
- diagnostic tool (Mot. 1489).
- bolt (11) fastening the crankshaft pulley by blocking the flywheel with a large screwdriver,
- crankshaft pulley.
Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt (12).
Loosen the timing belt tensioner by turning the eccentric with a 6mm hex wrench.
Remove:
- timing belt, while taking care not to drop the crankshaft toothed pulley,
- timing belt tensioner pulley.
Installation
Attention! Be sure to degrease:
- crankshaft end (from the timing drive),
- boring and bearing surfaces of the timing gear pulley,
- bearing surfaces of the crankshaft pulley.
This is necessary to avoid displacement of the timing drive.
Such a relative displacement leads to engine failure.
Parts that must be replaced:
- crankshaft pulley bolt,
- Timing belt tensioner,
- Timing belt.
Install:
- crankshaft pulley,
- new timing belt tensioner.
Install ledge (13) tension roller in the groove (14) on the cylinder head.
Paste (Mot. 1430) into the hole in the camshaft pulley and the hole in the cylinder head at the point (15), if necessary, turning the camshaft with an 18 mm bent wrench.
Make sure that the mark on the injection pump pulley (16) located opposite the head of the bolt (17).
Install Mot. 1489.
Install the crankshaft to (Mot. 1489) (groove 18 of the crankshaft must face up).
Install the timing belt starting at the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the marks on the belt with the marks on the injection pump and camshaft sprocket.
Note: The number of grooves of the timing belt between the marks of the camshaft pulleys and the injection pump must be 19, and between the marks of the crankshaft pulleys and the injection pump there should be 51 belt grooves.
Install the movable pointer of the timing belt tensioner pulley against the tab (19), by turning the eccentric counterclockwise with a hex wrench to 6 mm.
Torque tighten the timing belt tensioner bolt (27 Nm).
Install the crankshaft pulley with a new mounting bolt.
Tighten to the required torque and tighten to the specified angle (the crankshaft must rest against (Mot. 1489)) M14 bolt for fastening the crankshaft pulley (120 Nm + 95°±15°).
Remove:
- adaptation (Mot. 1430),
- diagnostic tool (Mot. 1489).
Rotate the crankshaft two turns clockwise (viewed from the timing side).
Before the camshaft pulley hole (20) align with cylinder head bore (21), screw (Mot. 1489) into the cylinder block.
Slowly and without jerking, bring the crankshaft to the stop in the fixture (Mot. 1489).
Lock the camshaft sprocket with tool (Mot. 1430).
Note: There must be 19 tooth gaps between the marks on the camshaft pulleys (22) and injection pump (23).
Remove:
- adaptation (Mot. 1489),
- diagnostic tool (Mot. 1430).
Note:
- After turning the crankshaft two revolutions, the movable timing idler pulley indicator should be in one of two positions.
- Depending on the position of the pointers, the tension roller eccentric must rotate in different directions.
Loosen the idler pulley mounting bolt no more than one turn while holding the idler pulley with a 6mm hex wrench.
Move the movable pointer smoothly (24) in the middle of the adjustment window (25), by turning the key counterclockwise.
2 - Second position
Loosen the idler pulley bolt one turn while holding the idler pulley with a 6mm hex wrench.
Move the movable pointer smoothly (26) in the middle of the adjustment window (27), by turning the key clockwise.
Torque tighten the timing belt tensioner bolt (27 Nm).
Rotate the crankshaft two turns clockwise (viewed from the timing side).
Before the camshaft sprocket hole aligns with the cylinder head hole, screw (Mot. 1489) into the cylinder block.
Slowly and without jerking, bring the crankshaft to the stop in the fixture (Mot. 1489).
Lock the camshaft sprocket with tool (Mot. 1430).
If fixture (Mot. 1430) cannot be installed, reinstall the timing belt from the beginning.
Remove:
- adaptation (Mot. 1489),
- diagnostic tool (Mot. 1430).
Apply a drop of silicone sealant to the threads of the TDC retainer plug.
