Tightening torques for removing and installing the timing belt
Attention: Be sure to replace the tensioner and idler pulleys along with the belt.
Note: The method for removing and installing the timing belt for engines with or without a camshaft phase regulator is the same.
Removal
Place the car on a lift.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the engine oil pan guard.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Install special devices (Mot. 1453 and Mot. 1453-01) with retaining straps.
Mark the position of the pendulum suspension support relative to the body.

Remove the engine swingarm mount assembly with the upper bracket.
Remove the lower reaction rod.
Caution: Be careful not to damage the air conditioner piping.
Remove the intake silencer mounting bolts.
Remove the intake silencer. Pierce the center of the camshaft plugs with a screwdriver.
Remove the camshaft plugs with screwdrivers.
Remove the plug from the hole for the TDC locking pin.
Position the camshaft grooves horizontally and offset downwards from the shaft axes by turning the crankshaft in the direction of rotation (clockwise when viewed from the timing drive side).
Screw in the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489). Turn the crankshaft clockwise (if you look from the timing drive side) until it stops at the TDC lock.
Make sure the grooves on the ends of the camshafts are horizontal and below the shaft axes.

Remove the crankshaft pulley, blocking the flywheel with a screwdriver, the upper and lower timing belt drive covers.

Removal the crankshaft pulley, upper and lower timing belt cover:
1 - crankshaft pulley;
2 — upper timing belt cover;
3 - lower timing belt cover
After loosening the tension roller axle mounting nut, loosen the timing belt tension.
Remove the idler pulley using a special tool.
Removal the idler pulley using a special tool:
1 — tension roller axle mounting nut;
2 - idler pulley
Remove the timing belt, making sure that the crankshaft toothed pulley does not fall off.
Remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
Remove the tension roller.
Installation
Attention: Replace the timing belt, crankshaft pulley mounting bolt, tensioner and idler pulley.
Degrease the end of the crankshaft (from the timing drive side), as well as the hole and bearing surfaces of the pulley, the toothed pulley of the crankshaft and the crankshaft itself.
This must be done to prevent the timing drive from shifting, otherwise the engine will fail.
This displacement leads to engine failure.
Position the camshaft grooves horizontally and offset downwards from the camshaft axes, turning the camshafts with a special tool if necessary (Mot. 799-01).
Fit the tool (Mot. 1750) onto the tool (Mot. 1496).
Fit tool (Mot. 1496) with tool (Mot. 1750) to the ends of the camshafts.
Install the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489)
Make sure that the crankshaft is locked with the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489) and the groove (1) of the crankshaft is facing upwards.
Install the tension roller, placing its protrusion in the groove (1).
Install the crankshaft sprocket, timing belt and idler pulley.

Tighten the idler pulley mounting bolt to the specified torque (45 Nm) using the special tool (Mot. 1368).

Belt tension
Using a 6mm Allen key, align the sliding pointer with the recess by turning the eccentric clockwise.
Belt tension:
1 - pointer;
2 - recess;
3 - eccentric
Tighten the tension roller axle mounting nut to the required torque (27 Nm).
Install the pulley onto the crankshaft. Tighten to the specified torque and turn to the specified angle (the crankshaft must be locked with the TDC lock) crankshaft pulley mounting bolt (40 Nm + 145°±15').
Remove the camshaft locking tool (Mot. 1496).
Remove the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489). Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise (if you look from the timing drive side). Before the end of the second revolution, screw the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489) into the hole in the cylinder block.
Slowly, without jerking, turn the crankshaft until it stops at the TDC lock. Unscrew the TDC lock (Mot. 1489).
Make sure the sliding pointer is positioned opposite the notch.
Loosen the tension roller mounting nut no more than one turn, holding the movable pointer with a 6 mm Allen key.
Smoothly move the movable pointer until it aligns with the recess by turning the eccentric clockwise.
Tighten the tension roller axle mounting nut to the required torque (27 Nm).
Checking the valve timing and timing belt tension
Align the movable pointer with the fixed pointer or with the recess, depending on the version of the tension roller.
Tighten the tension roller axle mounting nut to the required torque (27 Nm).
Before checking the valve timing, make sure that the tension roller indicators are in the correct position.
Screw the TDC locking tool (Mot. 1489) into the cylinder block hole.
Slowly and without jerking, bring the crankshaft to the stop in the lock. Install (without making any effort) device (Mot. 1496) for fixing camshafts (the grooves of the camshafts must be in a horizontal position below the axes of the shafts.
Caution: If the camshaft locking device does not fit into place, install the phase and valve timing repeater and adjust the timing belt tension.
Remove the TDC locking pin.
