If you find traces of oil leakage through the camshaft oil seal, first check whether the crankcase ventilation system is clogged or whether the hoses of this system are pinched, and fix the faults if necessary. If the oil leakage does not stop, replace the oil seal.

You will need: all the tools needed to remove the timing belt (see "Replacing and adjusting the belt tension, replacing the timing drive tension roller"), as well as a 16 mm wrench, a screwdriver, pliers, and a hammer.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the timing belt (see "Replacing and adjusting the belt tension, replacing the timing drive tension roller mechanism").

Note: You don't have to remove the belt completely, just remove it from the camshaft toothed pulley.

6. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the cylinder head socket.

7. Before installing a new oil seal, inspect its working edge. It should be smooth, without tears, dents, or rubber buildup. The oil seal spring should be intact and unstretched. Lubricate the working edge with engine oil.

Note: To make it easier to press the seal in, make a small chamfer on its seating edge using a file or fine emery wheel.

8. Install the oil seal with the working edge inside the cylinder head socket, carefully tuck the working edge onto the camshaft (for example, using a wooden stick) and press it in until it stops using a suitable mandrel. A suitable sized head from a tool kit or an old seal can be used as a mandrel.

9. Install all removed parts and assemblies in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Install the camshaft toothed pulley with the protruding part of the hub toward the engine. The tightening torque of the camshaft toothed pulley bolt is 45 N·m (4.5 kgf·m).

10. Adjust the timing belt tension (see "Replacing and adjusting the belt tension, replacing the timing drive tension roller") and the accessory drive belt (see "Checking the tension of the auxiliary drive belt").
