Removing
1. Remove the transmission (see above in Sections Removal and installation of the gasoline engine and manual transmission, Removal and installation of the petrol engine and automatic transmission or Removal and installation of diesel engine and gearbox this Chapter).
2. On manual transmission models, remove the clutch assembly (see chapter Clutch).
3. Mark the position of the flywheel/drive plate in relation to the crankshaft stub. Pay attention to the asymmetrical location of the mounting bolts, eliminating ambiguity when installing the flywheel / drive plate.
4. To prevent crankshaft rotation, screw a long bolt into one of the transmission mounting holes on the engine; rest a screwdriver on the bolt, the tip of which wedged into the teeth of the flywheel / drive disc ring (alternatively, you can use a piece of metal rod, appropriately bent).
5. Turn out fixing bolts and remove assemblage of a flywheel/drive disk from a cranked shaft.
Examination
1. Assess the degree of wear of the ring gear of the flywheel/drive plate assembly, make sure that there are no chipped teeth. The assembly design allows you to replace a defective ring gear on an individual basis, however, it would be wiser to entrust this work to car service specialists: before installation, the ring must be heated to a very specific temperature, the accidental excess of which can lead to a violation of the hardening of the teeth.
2. Carefully inspect the assembly for signs of deformation and thread-like cracks around the bolt holes, or radiating from the center. If such defects are found, the flywheel/drive plate must be replaced.
3. Assess the degree of roughness of the working surface mating with the clutch disc. If necessary, the flywheel can be machined, although replacement is always preferable.
Installation
1. Wipe mating surfaces of flywheel/drive plate and crankshaft journal. Place the assembly on the shaft in accordance with the landing marks made during the dismantling process.
2. Lightly lubricate the threads of the mounting bolts with a fixing compound, then screw in the bolts and tighten them in a diagonal pattern to the required torque.
3. Reinstall the transmission (see Sections Removal and installation of the gasoline engine and manual transmission, Removal and installation of the petrol engine and automatic transmission or Removal and installation of diesel engine and gearbox this Chapter).
