Note. Given that special tools are required to remove and inspect the head, it is recommended that you purchase a new or remanufactured component from an engine remanufacturer. In the end, this can come out cheaper than sorting out the head yourself.
Attention! Exhaust valves on F7R engines contain sodium to improve heat transfer. These valves CANNOT be thrown away with their contents. Better to cut them in half and dip them in water (4 valves require 10 liters). Observe the necessary security measures.
Gasoline engines
1. Remove rocker shaft (engines 1.4 and 1.6 l), camshafts and tappets.
Diesel engines
1. Remove the brake vacuum pump (contact the head Brake system), fuel injectors and fuel pump if removed with cylinder head and camshaft and tappets.
All engines
1a. Using a puller, compress the valve springs in turn and remove the crackers.
1b. Then release the puller and remove the cover, spring.
1c. Remove the spring support (refer to illustrations).
2a. Remove the slinger cap from the top of the valve guide.
2b. Then remove the valve through the combustion chamber (refer to illustrations).
3a. It is very important that the valves and associated components are stored together in the correct sequence if they are to be used again.
3b. To do this, place them in labeled plastic bags (refer to illustrations).
