1. On F8Q engines, if swirl chambers have been removed, reinstall them.
2a. Lubricate the valve stem seals, then install them in the cylinder head.
2b. By pushing them with a suitable head or special tool (refer to illustrations), make sure the cap is fully seated on the valve guide.
3. Insert the valves back into place. If new valves are installed, insert them in the places to which they were lapped. Be careful not to damage the valve stem seals when installing the valves (refer to accompanying illustration).
4. Position the spring seat on the guide, then the spring and cap.
5. Compress the valve spring and insert the cotters into the recess in the stem. Release the puller, then repeat the procedure for the remaining valves. Apply some lubricant to keep the cotters in the valve groove (refer to accompanying illustration).
6. With all valves in place, place the cylinder head on a workbench and use a mallet to hit the stem end of each valve to settle the position of the components.
7. Now you can install the previously removed components listed in paragraphs 1 or 2 of Section Dismantling of a head of the block of cylinders.
