4X2 modes (2WD), 4X4 (4WD)
Depending on the road conditions, you can select one of the following modes by turning switch 1:
- 2WD;
- AUTO;
- 4WD Lock.
AUTO mode
To select this mode, turn switch 1 to position «AUTO».
Operating principle
In AUTO mode, torque is automatically distributed between the front and rear wheels depending on road conditions and vehicle speed. This position improves the stability of the car on the road. Use this mode on any road (dry pavement, snow, slippery road, etc.) or when towing a trailer, caravan, etc. There is no indication on the instrument panel for this mode.
2WD mode
To enable this mode, turn switch 1 to the 2WD position. The warning light on the instrument panel will light up.
Operating principle
In mode «2WD» only the front wheels are used as driving wheels.
Use this mode on dry roads with good grip.
To disable this mode, turn switch 1 to the AUTO position. The warning light on the instrument panel will turn off.
4WD Lock Mode
To enable this mode, turn switch 1 to the 4WD Lock position. The switch then returns to the AUTO position. The warning light on the instrument panel will light up.
Operating principle
In 4WD Lock mode, the torque is distributed between the front and rear wheels in a proportion that is optimal for driving the car in off-road conditions. This mode should only be used off-road (examples: mud, steep slopes, woods).
To turn off this mode, turn switch 1 back to the 4WD Lock position. The signal lamp on the instrument panel will go out. When the engine is stopped, 4WD Lock remains on for one minute. After a minute, the system enters 2WD or AUTO mode, depending on the position of the switch.
Note: at speeds over 60 km/h in «4WD Lock» the system automatically switches to «AUTO». The warning light goes out.
Features of the all-wheel drive transmission
The vehicle may make excessive noise when AUTO or 4WD Lock is on. This is not a malfunction. If the system detects a difference in front and rear wheel sizes (for example, in case of insufficient tire pressure, pronounced tire wear on one of the axles, etc.), it automatically enters 2WD mode. The warning lights on the instrument panel light up. Continue driving at a moderate speed and contact a workshop as soon as possible. Tire replacement may be the solution to this problem. Always use four identical tires (same manufacturer and design) with the same degree of wear.
If the wheels slip heavily, overheating of the mechanical components is possible.
If this happens:
- first, the indicator light flashes. 4WD Lock mode is still enabled, but it is recommended to stop as soon as possible and let the system cool down (until the lamp stops flashing);
- if the wheel spin continues, the system automatically switches to 2WD mode to protect the mechanical components.
The warning light is flashing. In this case, you need to select another mode as soon as possible.
In this case, it is recommended to stop as soon as possible and allow the system to cool down (until the lamp stops flashing). It may take approximately five minutes to cool down.
When the system detects too much front wheel slip, it changes the engine mode to reduce the slip.
ABS operation in LOCK mode (vehicles with ABS)
When 4WD Lock is active, off-road ABS mode is enabled. In this situation, cyclic locking of the wheels is allowed so that they better push through the soil, which reduces the braking distance on loose soils. If this mode is enabled:
- vehicle maneuverability in braking mode is limited. This mode of operation is not recommended for very low grip conditions (like on ice);
- some noise may appear. This is normal and does not constitute a malfunction.
Stability control and traction control when driving off-road (vehicles with ESP)
When driving on loose ground (sand, mud, deep snow) it is recommended to disable the ESP by pressing the ESP switch.
In this case, only the separate wheel braking system works. This system brakes a spinning wheel or wheels, which ensures that the torque is transferred to the wheels that have more traction. This is especially useful when all-wheel drive is on.
All functions of the ESP system are activated again after exceeding 50 km/h (60 km/h in 4WD Lock mode), or after restarting the engine, or after pressing the ESP switch again. All functions of the ESP system are activated again after exceeding 50 km/h (60 km/h in 4WD Lock mode), or after restarting the engine, or after pressing the ESP switch again.
Faults
When the system detects a malfunction, it will automatically enter 2WD mode and the warning lights will turn on.
Continue driving at a moderate speed and contact the manufacturer's service station as soon as possible.
For some malfunctions, the system may not enter 2WD mode or 4WD Lock mode. The AUTO mode remains on.
Urgently contact the service station.
