Note. The information below applies only to Renault original equipment anti-theft alarm and engine immobilization systems.
On most of the models covered in this manual, an anti-theft alarm system is included as standard. The alarm turns on and off automatically when using the remote control (DU) single castle. When the system is activated, the indicator lamp mounted in the overhead console of the vehicle flashes continuously. In addition to the anti-theft system, the car may be equipped with an engine immobilizer.
An engine immobilizer is also included with most models. On models equipped with an anti-theft alarm system, the immobilizer is also turned on and off automatically when using the single lock remote control. If there is no single lock, the immobilization system is activated using an ignition key equipped with an electronic chip. When the immobilizer is activated, a special control lamp on the instrument panel starts flashing continuously.
Anti-theft alarm system
Note. When locking and unlocking the doors with the key on / off, the anti-theft alarm does not occur.
The anti-theft system includes sensors-switches for all doors, the hood and the tailgate/trunk lid. In addition to the door sensors-switches, a motion-activated ultrasonic emitter with tracking sensors mounted in the ceiling console is installed in the passenger compartment. If for any reason the single lock remote control fails when the anti-theft alarm is on, the system can be turned off manually using the key. Open the door with the key, then enter the car interior - when the door is opened, the alarm will go off. Now open the glove box and move to the OFF position (Turned off) anti-theft isolating switch.
When the anti-theft alarm is activated using the single lock remote control, the alarm siren will work once, and the indicator lamp should turn on and start flashing continuously; otherwise, check the position of the isolating switch of the system in the glove box. If the siren sounds but the indicator light does not come on, check that all doors/bonnet/trunk lid are closed properly.
To deactivate the anti-theft system, unlock the doors using the single lock remote control, then open the glove compartment lid and turn the system isolating switch to the OFF position. To put the system back into operation, turn the switch to the ON position (On), then lock the doors with the remote control and unlock them again (again with the remote).
In the event of a malfunction of the anti-theft alarm, the car should be driven to a specialized car service workshop.
Engine immobilization system
Models equipped with a single lock
Note. If the remote control of a single lock fails with the doors locked, you should use the spare remote control that is included in the standard equipment of the car. If this is not possible, contact the specialists of the Renault branded service center for help, as the immobilization system will not allow the engine to be started.
On models equipped with a single lock, the engine immobilization system is turned on and off automatically when using the remote control.
When the doors are locked from the remote control, the immobilizer is turned on, as evidenced by the operation of the control lamp installed in the instrument panel, which starts flashing continuously. When the doors are unlocked, the lamp should go out. When the ignition is switched on, the control lamp of the engine immobilization system comes on for a short time. After a few seconds, the lamp should go out again, which indicates that the immobilizer has received the correct signal and the engine can be started.
If the warning light stays on after the ignition is switched on, or starts flashing while the engine is running, take the vehicle to a workshop to have the system diagnosed and repaired as necessary.
Models without a single lock
Note. If the ignition key equipped with a microchip is lost or damaged and it is not possible to use a spare set, you should seek help from a Renault authorized service center, since starting the engine in this case is not possible.
On models not equipped with a single lock, the engine immobilizer is switched on and off using a microchip-equipped ignition key.
The immobilization system is activated automatically when the ignition is switched off. At the same time, the control lamp mounted in the instrument panel is switched on, which begins to flash continuously. When the key is inserted into the ignition lock and turned to the M position, the control lamp should turn on for a few seconds, then go out, which indicates that the system has received the required signal from the microchip and the engine is allowed to start.
If the warning light comes on or flashes while the engine is running, the vehicle should be taken to a Renault authorized workshop to have the system diagnosed and repaired as necessary.
Disconnecting the battery
Before disconnecting the battery, the anti-theft alarm system must be deactivated by turning the isolating switch to the OFF position (see above). Otherwise, the alarm siren will sound when the battery is disconnected [connected?]. Be sure to turn the isolating switch to the ON position after reconnecting the electrical connections.
