The security alarm is installed additionally and is designed to control the opening of doors, hood and prevent unauthorized entry into the passenger compartment.

When the alarm system is triggered, the emergency light and the sound signal or siren are activated and operate for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the alarm system automatically switches to the activated mode. After three alarms, the alarm system is deactivated, although the signal lamp continues to flash. The alarm system is controlled by the central switching unit.

The alarm system is activated after the car doors are locked with the remote control. There is a lock in the glove compartment with which you can turn off the alarm system.

The doors and trunk lid are monitored via the corresponding contacts. Even an attempt to slightly raise the hood triggers the alarm thanks to an additional contact on the hood.

The interior is protected by two ultrasonic sensors on the interior light that react to movement. For this reason, the alarm system should be turned off when leaving animals in the interior.

Anti-theft device

MEGANE cars are equipped with an electronic anti-theft device as standard. The anti-theft device allows the engine to be started using coded keys or a remote control. The activated device can be recognized by the flashing red LED light on the instrument panel. There are two modifications of the anti-theft device.

Anti-theft device for cars with central locking

The anti-theft device is switched on and off automatically when you press the button on the remote control to switch the central lock on or off.

The infrared signal changes automatically after each activation of the remote control. This prevents possible theft of the car by copying the infrared signal.

If the car doors were not closed after the engine was stopped, the anti-theft system is switched on automatically after 10 minutes when the front door is opened. If the doors were not opened, the device is switched on automatically after 30 minutes if all on-board network consumers are switched off, for example, the radio or interior lighting. In order to start the engine after the anti-theft device is automatically switched on, you must first close the doors from the control panel and then unlock them.

When the voltage in the on-board network drops, (for example, due to low battery charge when starting the engine) or when the battery is disconnected, the anti-theft device is activated. After the battery is charged or installed, the car doors should be closed with the remote control and then unlocked to start the engine.

Anti-theft device for cars without central locking

The anti-theft device of cars without a central lock is controlled by a so-called transponder (transmitter) and is activated when the key is removed from the ignition switch.

When the ignition is turned on, the transmitter in the ignition key handle transmits a signal with the key code to the device. The control device of the anti-theft device is located next to the ignition switch. The transmitter in the key handle does not require power. It is transmitted by induction from the control device.

If the engine turns over when started but does not start, and the anti-theft device indicator light on the instrument panel is on or flashing, this means that the anti-theft system is activated, and the receiver on the ignition switch did not recognize the key code. This may be due to the following reasons:
  • a) the reading process is interfered with by other keys on the keychain;
  • b) the key code is damaged.

When the voltage in the on-board network drops below 6 V, the anti-theft device is activated and starting the engine is impossible, including by pushing or towing.
