When the burglar alarm is triggered, the hazard warning light and the horn or siren are activated for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the burglar alarm will automatically switch to the activated mode. After three trips, the burglar alarm is deactivated, although the signal light continues to flash. The burglar alarm is controlled by a central switching unit.
The burglar alarm is activated after locking the car doors with the remote control. The glove box has a lock with which you can turn off the alarm.
The control of the doors and tailgate is carried out via the corresponding contacts. Even an attempt to raise the hood a little causes the alarm to go off due to the additional contact on the hood.
Interior protection is carried out by two ultrasonic sensors on the interior lamp, which react to movement. For this reason, when leaving animals in the cabin, the burglar alarm should be turned off.
Anti-theft device
MEGANE cars are equipped as standard with an electronic anti-theft device. The anti-theft device allows you to start the engine using coded keys or from the remote control. The activated device can be recognized by the flashing red LED on the instrument panel. There are two modifications of the anti-theft device.
Car anti-theft device with central locking
The anti-theft device turns on and off automatically when you press the button on the remote control to turn the central lock on or off.
The infrared signal changes automatically each time the remote control is activated. This prevents possible vehicle theft by copying the infrared signal.
If the car doors were not closed after the engine was stopped, the anti-theft system is activated automatically after 10 minutes when the front door is opened. If the doors are not opened, the device turns on automatically after 30 minutes if all consumers of the on-board network are turned off, for example, the radio or interior lighting. In order to start the engine after the automatic activation of the anti-theft device, it is necessary to first close the doors from the control panel, and then unlock them.
In the event of a voltage drop in the on-board network, for example, due to a low battery charge when starting the engine) or when the battery is disconnected, the anti-theft device is activated. After the battery is charged or installed, the car doors should be closed with the remote control and then unlocked to start the engine.
Anti-theft device for vehicles without central locking
The anti-theft device of vehicles without central locking is controlled by a so-called transponder (transmitter) and is activated when the key is removed from the ignition.
When the ignition is turned on, the transmitter in the ignition key handle transmits a signal with the key code to the device. The control device of the anti-theft device is located next to the ignition switch. The transmitter in the key handle does not require power. It is transmitted by induction from the control device.
If the engine cranks but does not start at start-up and the anti-theft warning light on the instrument panel is on or flashing, this means that the anti-theft system is activated and the ignition switch receiver did not recognize the key code. This may be due to the following reasons:
- A) the reading process is interfered with by other keys on the bundle;
- b) key code is corrupted.
If the voltage in the on-board network drops below 6 V, the anti-theft device turns on and the engine cannot be started, including by the method «push» or towing.
