The system is activated during strong frontal impacts, when the resulting axial overload exceeds a certain set value. The airbag inflates in milliseconds, completely filling the space between the chest and head of the driver/front passenger and the steering wheel/dashboard, greatly reducing the risk of injury to persons. At the same time, the SRS control unit issues a command to deploy the front seat belt pretensioners (see chapter Body). The release of gas from the pillows is carried out almost immediately after they are filled.
Each time the ignition is turned on, the SRS warning light in the vehicle's instrument panel will flash for a short time. As long as the lamp stays on (about 3 seconds) the control unit has time to receive the necessary information from the self-diagnosis device. If no problems are found, the lamp goes out, otherwise, and also if the lamp comes on while driving, the car should be driven to a Renault service station to diagnose the system and perform the necessary repairs.
Precautionary measures
Warning! Disconnect the battery and deactivate the SRS system before doing any airbag service to avoid injury from accidental deployment of the modules. To deactivate the system, remove the SRS fuse from the mounting block. You can start work only after at least five minutes after removing the fuse - this time should be enough to discharge the reserve tanks in the control unit. When connecting the battery, make sure that no one is in the car. Trial switching on the ignition should be done from outside the car through the open driver's door.
Attention! Remember that airbag modules must not be exposed to high temperatures. When removing cushions, always place them face up to prevent accidental triggering of the gas generator.
Attention! Do not allow airbag modules to come into contact with any type of solvent. Use only a damp cloth to wipe the components.
Attention! Both the airbag modules and the SRS control unit are impact sensitive. Try not to drop system components, as they will then have to be replaced.
Attention! Disconnect the wiring from the SRS control module before using arc welding on a vehicle.
