1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then remove the fuse for the pretensioners and airbags (SRS fuse) from its nest in the mounting block and wait at least five minutes, during which the final discharge of the reserve capacities of the control block should occur (see Section Airbag system - general information and precautions).
Driver airbag
Removing
1. From the back of the steering wheel, remove the two screws securing the airbag module (turn the wheel to access the screws).
2. Return the steering wheel to a straight position, then carefully remove the airbag module assembly from its hub. Disconnect the electrical connector on the back of the module (refer to accompanying illustration). Please note that the module must not be subjected to shaking or impact. Lay the module on the workbench only with the overlay facing up.
Installation
1. Make sure that the module wiring connector is securely fixed, then put the assembly in its regular place in the center of the steering wheel hub. Make sure the wiring is not pinched. Screw in the mounting screws and tighten them to the required torque (refer to accompanying illustration).
2. Replace the SRS fuse, make sure that no one is in the cabin, then turn on the ignition through the open driver's door without entering the car. Make sure that the SRS warning light works properly.
Passenger airbag
Removing
1. Remove the instrument panel (see chapter Body).
2. Disunite electric sockets, then give fixing nuts/bolts. Remove the airbag module from its supports and remove it from the instrument panel.
Installation
1. Get the airbag module to its regular place in the instrument panel. Track correctness of a snap-in of lock uvulas of clamps. Restore the original wiring connection, making sure the harnesses are routed correctly and the connectors are secure. Secure the harnesses in all provided intermediate clamps and straps.
2. Reinstall the instrument panel (see chapter Body).
3. Replace the SRS fuse, make sure that no one is in the cabin, then turn on the ignition through the open driver's door without entering the car. Make sure that the SRS warning light works properly.
SRS control unit
Removing
1. Remove the center console (see chapter Body) in order to gain access to the SRS control unit attached to the selector/gear shift lever.
2. Release the clamp and disconnect the wiring connector, then give the fixing nuts and remove the control unit from the car (refer to accompanying illustration).
Installation
1. Install the control unit in its original place. Make sure that the arrow on the block label points forward along the engine (refer to accompanying illustration). Screw on the fixing nuts and tighten them firmly.
2. Restore the original wiring and reinstall the center console (see chapter Body).
3. Install the SRS fuse in place, make sure that no one is in the cabin, then turn on the ignition through the open driver's door without entering the car. Make sure the operation is correct
Contact block driver's airbag
Removing
1. Remove the driver's airbag module, then remove the steering wheel (see chapter Suspension and steering). Make sure that the steered wheels of the car are deployed in a straight line position.
2. Remove the cover from the inner end of the radio control switch assembly, then loosen the fixing screw a few turns (refer to accompanying illustration).
3a. Turn out fixing screws and remove the bottom half of a casing of a steering column.
3b. Loosen the two screws securing the upper half of the casing and also remove the last (refer to illustrations).
4a. Disconnect the electrical connector.
4b. Turn out fixing screws and remove the contact block from the top end face of a steering column (refer to illustrations).
Installation
1. Before installation, make sure that the alignment of the contact block is correct. With the front wheels of the vehicle in a straight position, the unit must be located on the steering column with the connector up. When in doubt, start turning the contact block clockwise until a resistance is felt. From this point, rotate the block in the opposite direction so that the connector is on top, then turn it two more full turns counterclockwise (refer to accompanying illustration).
2. Place the contact block in its original place and engage it with the switch housing. Check that the slip ring is secure and tighten the fixing screws securely.
3. Connect the electrical wiring and reinstall the upper casing of the steering column, firmly fixing it with screws. Install the lower speaker cover, tighten the fixing screws, then tighten the radio control stem switch screw.
4. Replace the steering wheel (see chapter Suspension and steering), then install the airbag module.
