The passenger side airbag (SRP) is equipped with an inflatable chamber with two sections.

This airbag has a seat belt located opposite it. Therefore, for this type of airbag, an additional adjustment of the programmable seat belt restraint system is made.

Description

The cushion is installed in the dashboard opposite the front passenger seat. It includes:
  • inflatable chamber with two sections;
  • non-detachable pyrotechnic gas generator with two igniters.

non-detachable pyrotechnic gas generator with two igniters.

Note: This system is activated when the ignition is turned on.

Removal the module

Attention! It is prohibited to carry out any work with pyrotechnic systems (seat belt pretensioners or air bags) near a heat source or open flame, as there is a risk of their deployment. Before removing the passenger airbag unit, be sure to lock the ECU using a diagnostic tool. This will lock all ignition circuits and illuminate the airbag warning light on the instrument panel.

To remove the passenger airbag module, you must remove the instrument panel.

Disconnect the connectors of both igniters and remove the mounting screws.

Attention! If the passenger airbag unit is deployed, or the fastening elements are damaged or destroyed, the instrument panel must be replaced.

Don't forget to stick a label on the side of the new instrument panel stating that it is prohibited to install a child seat on the rear-facing passenger seat (this label is included in the kit Part No.: 77 01 205 442).

When the seat belt pretensioners or airbags are triggered, the ECU is completely blocked and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel lights up. In this case, the ECU must be replaced (under the influence of ignition energy, some components lose their nominal characteristics).

Installing the module

Caution: Observe safety precautions when removing or replacing the passenger airbag module.

The slightest deviation from these rules can lead to failure of the pyrotechnic systems and even create a danger for the vehicle passengers.

Proceed in the reverse order of removal, making sure to observe the tightening torques of the module fastening elements.

Replace the passenger airbag module 2 mounting clips.

Attention! There should be no foreign objects in the airbag installation area (screws, clamps, etc.).

The tightening torque of the module fastening elements is 2 Nm.

Connect the wire connector to the module, press the wire connector until it is fully secured and install the safety lock.

Attach a blue sticker indicating that the work has been carried out.

Perform a check using a diagnostic tool.

If all characteristics are within normal limits, unlock the ECU.

Access to the igniter

Access to the igniter (dual section airbags) or the intermediate connector 1 of the passenger airbag module for diagnostic purposes is provided through the glove compartment.

Remove the glove compartment cover, the connector is located on the right side of the dashboard (next to the additional fuse and relay box, if present).
