Description
The side airbag module is installed in the backrest of the front seat on the door side.
It includes:
- inflatable chamber;
- non-detachable pyrotechnic gas generator with igniter.

When deployed, the airbag tears the padding and releases the clips holding the upholstery fabric.
Note: This system is activated when the ignition is turned on.
Removal the module
Attention! It is prohibited to carry out any work with pyrotechnic systems (seat belt pretensioners or air bags) near a heat source or open flame, as there is a risk of them being triggered.
Before working on the backrest or removing a seat equipped with a side airbag, be sure to lock the ECU using a diagnostic tool. This will lock all ignition circuits and illuminate the airbag warning light on the instrument panel (with ignition on).
When removing the seat, do not allow the connector to disconnect to avoid electrostatic discharge, which may cause the air bag to deploy.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the seat assembly using tool E1. 1584 and the backrest upholstery.
Disconnect the connector and release the airbag module wires, including the connection wire to "mass" (mark the laying and attachment points of the wires).
Warning! If the system has never been activated and needs to be reinstalled after removal, do not deploy the airbag, as its inflatable chamber is folded in a special way.
Remove retainer 1 and take out the airbag.

Caution! For disposal of a non-deployed side airbag, see the section "Disposal procedure".
When the seat belt pretensioners or airbags are triggered, the ECU is completely blocked and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel lights up. In this case, the side impact sensor and ECU must be replaced (under the influence of ignition energy, some components lose their nominal characteristics).
Installing the module
Attention! If the passenger airbag module is triggered, or if the fastening elements are damaged or deformed, the seat fittings must be replaced:
- install the airbag module to the seat frame;
- install the retainer 1 supplied with the module;
- make sure the ground wire is properly connected to the airbag module (depending on the configuration);
- place the wires under the seat cushion as before, paying attention to the correct placement and attachment points;
- reconnect the ground wire and check that the connector is securely fastened.

Install the seat upholstery.
Install the seat on the vehicle and connect all connectors.
Perform a check using a diagnostic tool.
If all characteristics are within normal limits, unlock the ECU.
Attention! The slightest deviation from these rules may lead to failure of the pyrotechnic systems or their spontaneous activation.
