Depending on the signal received from the crankshaft sensor, the injection system control unit sends a command to operate the corresponding ignition coil.
Each ignition coil generates two high voltage pulses simultaneously:
- ignition coil 1 simultaneously generates pulses for spark plugs of cylinders 1 and 5;
- ignition coil 2 simultaneously generates pulses for spark plugs of cylinders 2 and 6;
- ignition coil 3 simultaneously generates pulses for spark plugs of cylinders 3 and 4.
The flywheel ring gear assumes 60 identical teeth of a certain size, located with an equal specified interval. Two teeth are missing, thus forming an absolute position mark located at an azimuth of 60° before the TDC position. That is, in fact, the ring has 58 teeth.
The crankshaft position sensor determines the TDC and BDC positions and the crankshaft rotation speed. The position of the sensor is not adjustable, as its position is initially adjusted by the mounting plate. The sensor must be secured to the clutch housing with special bolts with a long, non-threaded portion of the rod.
The engine is equipped with 3 ignition coils, independent of the injection system control unit, i.e. interchangeable and fixed to the cylinder head cover
The control unit is an electronic system that determines the ignition timing parameters, depending mainly on the crankshaft speed and the engine load
Precautions
- The voltage in electronic ignition systems reaches 30,000 V. To avoid electric shock or ignition failure, certain precautions must be taken.
- Do not touch the high-tension spark plug wire with your hand or disconnect it while the engine is running or while the starter is turning it.
- Disconnect ignition system wires and instrument wires only when the ignition is off.
- Wash the engine only with the ignition off.
Anti-theft engine start blocking
The car is equipped with a 2nd generation engine anti-theft system.
Replacing the fuel injection system control unit
Fuel injection system control units are supplied as spare parts uncoded but ready for coding.
When replacing the unit, you need to enter a code into it, unique for each car, then check the operation of the anti-theft engine blocking system.
To do this, simply turn on the ignition for a few seconds, then turn it off and remove the key from the ignition.
Checking the operation of the anti-theft engine immobilizer system Remove the key from the ignition switch, after 10 seconds the red engine immobilizer system indicator light should flash.
Operation of the injection system and air conditioning system
When the air conditioning system is switched on, the crankshaft speed at cold running increases to 900 min⁻¹.
Under certain operating conditions, the injection system control unit requests the compressor to be switched on and to operate. Switching on the compressor is prohibited for 10 seconds after the engine has started.

The compressor will not turn on if the coolant temperature is over 115°C. The compressor will not turn on or operate if the engine crankshaft speed exceeds 6000 min⁻¹
