The parking brake should hold the vehicle on a 25% slope when the handbrake lever is moved 5-7 clicks

To find such a slope, the overpass or other place must have the following dimensions:
  • H - 1.25 m;
  • L - 5 m.

If the parking brake control cable is too tight, the main brake pedal becomes "tight" and the automatic brake shoe clearance adjuster is blocked. Simply releasing the cable tension will only temporarily solve the problem; a full adjustment is required.

The same applies to cases of replacing brake pads, parking brake cable or control lever.

1. Place the vehicle on a lift.

2. Loosen the adjusting nut (1) until the cable tension is completely released. Loosen the cables on the equalizer.

2. Loosen the adjusting nut (1) until the cable tension is completely released. Loosen the cables…

3. Remove both rear wheels and brake drums.

4. Check the operation of the automatic compensator by rotating the toothed segment (D) in both directions.

Loosen the segment by 5-6 teeth.

Loosen the segment by 5-6 teeth.

5. Check the freedom of movement of the cable and the correct installation of the lever (B) relative to the brake shoes.

5. Check the freedom of movement of the cable and the correct installation of the lever (B)…

6. Gradually tighten the cable adjuster on the equalizer until the levers (B) begin to move between the 1st and 2nd tooth of the parking brake lever stroke. The brake should begin to operate on the second tooth of the lever stroke.

7. Tighten the adjusting unit lock nut.

8. Install the brake drums and wheels.

9. Press the brake pedal several times until you hear the click of the automatic compensator operating.
