Removing
1. Before removing the fuel tank, all fuel must be removed from it.
2. Remove the rear seat or rear seat cushion (Chapter Body), to access the fuel pump cover.
3. Use a screwdriver to gently press the cap to gain access to the pump.
4. If fuel remains in the fuel tank, it can be removed by disconnecting the fuel supply hose and attaching a hose to the nozzle on the pump. Remove the fuel priming pump relay located in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment (relay "L", see Scheme 1), and connect a jumper between terminals 3 and 5 (terminals with thick wires). Wait until the fuel priming pump draws fuel from the tank, then disconnect the jumper and install the relay.
5. Disconnect the wiring connector from the fuel priming pump and attach it to the car body.
6. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (contact the head Engine electrical equipment for Scenic models).
Attention! If the car radio in your car is coded, make sure you know the code before disconnecting the battery.
7. Disconnect the return hose from the fuel priming pump, refer to Section Removal and installation of the fuel priming pump.
8. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the right rear wheel.
9. Remove the exhaust system and the corresponding heat shield, refer to Section Removing and installing the exhaust system.
10. Note the position of the adjusting nut on the back of the handbrake lever equalizer rod, then unscrew and remove it and separate the handbrake cables from the holders on the bottom. Move the cables away from the fuel tank.
11. Support the tank with a jack with a wooden block laid between them.
12. Unscrew and remove the fixing bolts, then slowly lower the fuel tank, disconnecting all the pipes that become accessible, and remove the tank from under the car. Note that it may be necessary to carefully bend the brake lines to ensure sufficient clearance when lowering the tank.
13. If the tank is contaminated with sediment or water, remove the fuel priming pump/sensor (Chapter Removal and installation of the fuel priming pump), and flush the tank with clean fuel. The tank is made of synthetic material - and if it gets damaged, it should be replaced. However, in some cases, small leaks can be repaired. Seek advice from a specialist.
Installation
1. Install in the reverse order of removal paying attention to the following:
- a) When lifting the tank back to the working position, make sure that no hoses are pinched between the tank and the vehicle body.
- b) Make sure all tubes and hoses are correctly positioned.
- With) Finally, fill the tank with a small amount of fuel and check for signs of leakage.
