The fuel system consists of a fuel tank, a fuel lift pump, a fuel filter, and fuel feed and return lines. Single-point fuel injection models have a throttle body assembly that includes one fuel injector and a fuel pressure regulator. On multipoint injection models, the pump supplies fuel to a fuel rail that acts as a reservoir. From the rail, the fuel flows to the injectors, which then inject it into the intake ports of the cylinders. In addition, there is an electronic control unit (ECU), various sensors, electrical components, and associated wiring.

For further information, please refer to Sections General description of the fuel injection system and Removal and installation of the exhaust system.

Warning! Many of the procedures in this Chapter require the removal of fuel lines and connections, which will usually result in some fuel leakage. Gasoline is extremely dangerous - use extreme caution when working around the fuel system.

Note: Even if the vehicle has not been used for a long time, there will still be excess pressure in the fuel lines. When disconnecting any fuel line, first depressurize the fuel system as described in Section Fuel injection system leak.
