Removing
1. On E7J engines, remove the air filter assembly as described in Section Removal and installation - air filter assembly and intake ducts. On all models where applicable, unscrew the reinforcing rod between the front suspension strut domes.
2. At the throttle body, manually rotate the throttle sector to loosen the cable tension. Disconnect the cable from the sector (refer to accompanying illustration).
3. Remove the cable cover and o-ring from the bracket (refer to accompanying illustration). On automatic transmission models, disconnect the forced reverse shift sensor wiring from the end of the cable housing. If necessary, remove the spring clip from the end of the cable, noting its location in the groove.
4. Working inside the vehicle, remove the lower trim panel from under the steering column. Disconnect the cable from the gas pedal by squeezing the protrusions of the tip of the cable (refer to accompanying illustration).
5. Return to the engine compartment, release the cable cover from the bulkhead and remove the cable.
Installation
1. Install in reverse order, if necessary, adjust the cable as follows. Adjust before installing reinforcing rod or air filter assembly.
Adjustment
1. After removing the spring clip from the accelerator cable casing, check that the throttle sector touches the limiter. Gently pull the cable out of the o-ring, removing all cable play.
2a. After locking the cable in this position, install the spring clip in the groove closest to the rubber sealing ring and washer (refer to illustrations).
2b. After installing the bracket and releasing the cable cover, there should be only a slight play in the cable.
2c. Bracket - K7M engine
Note. When the ignition is turned off, the idle drive motor opens the throttle slightly. There must be enough play in the cable so that the throttle can be closed from this position, otherwise you will not get a stable idle speed.
3. Ask an assistant to press the gas pedal and check that the throttle sector opens completely and freely and returns to the limiter.
