Removal
1. On E7J engines, remove the air cleaner assembly as described in Section Removal and installation - air filter assembly and air intake ducts. On all models where applicable, remove the reinforcement rod between the front suspension strut domes.

2. On the throttle body, manually rotate the throttle sector to release the cable tension. Disconnect the cable from the sector (refer to the accompanying illustration).

3. Remove the cable housing and sealing ring from the bracket (refer to the accompanying illustration). On automatic transmission models, disconnect the positive shift back switch wiring from the end of the cable housing. If necessary, remove the spring clip from the end of the cable, noting its location in the groove.

4. Working inside the vehicle, remove the lower trim panel from under the steering column. Disconnect the cable from the gas pedal by squeezing the tabs on the cable end (refer to the accompanying illustration).
5. Return to the engine compartment, release the cable housing from the bulkhead and remove the cable.
Installation
1. Install in reverse order, adjust the cable as follows if necessary. Adjust before installing the reinforcement rod or air cleaner assembly.
Adjustment
1. After removing the spring clip from the accelerator cable housing, check that the throttle sector contacts the stop. Carefully pull the cable out of the sealing ring, removing all play in the cable.

2a. Having fixed the cable in this position, install the spring clip into the groove closest to the rubber sealing ring and washer (refer to the illustrations).

2b. After installing the bracket and releasing the cable housing, there should be only a slight play in the cable.
2c. Bracket - K7M engine
Note: When the ignition is turned off, the idle drive motor slightly opens the throttle valve. There must be enough play in the cable to allow the throttle valve to close from this position, otherwise you will not get a stable idle speed.
3. Ask an assistant to press the gas pedal and check that the throttle sector opens fully and freely and returns to the limiter.
