Selector lever positions
R. Parking
The drive wheels are automatically locked. The selector should only be placed in this position when the vehicle is completely stopped.
R. Reverse
It must be turned on only when the vehicle is completely stopped and the engine is idling.
Location of the selector lever on vehicles with automatic transmission
In position «R» When the ignition is on, the reversing lights come on
N. Neutral position (idle position)
No gear is included. The engine can be started.
D. Long forward movement
Four gears switch automatically from low to higher and vice versa, depending on the engine load, vehicle speed and the selected program.
Under certain driving conditions, it may be advisable to temporarily use one of the following positions.
3. Automatic switching to 1-2-3 stages
Recommended when, under certain driving conditions, with the selector lever in position «D» There is frequent switching from 3rd to 4th gear and vice versa. It is recommended to enable this position when driving the vehicle on hilly terrain. Automatically shifts up and down 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear depending on engine load and driving speed. 4th gear is locked. This also increases the efficiency of engine braking when the fuel supply is cut off.
2. Automatic switching to 1-2 stages
Recommended for long ascents and descents. Automatically shifts up and down 1st or 2nd gear depending on engine load and driving speed. 3rd and 4th gears remain locked to prevent unnecessary upshifts. This also improves engine braking efficiency.
1. Position for mountainous sections of the road with large slopes. It is recommended to choose this position when driving on steep ascents and descents. The car only moves in 1st gear. 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are locked. to prevent unnecessary upshifts. This achieves the highest possible engine braking efficiency
Moving the selector lever
To select the desired position, move the selector lever towards the steering wheel. Before installing the selector lever in some positions, you must first pull the lever towards you. When starting the engine, the selector lever must be in position «R» or «N». Moving the lever between positions «D» or «R» must be performed with the car stopped, the brake pedal pressed and the accelerator pedal released, which will prevent any movement of the car.
Switches located on the instrument panel: 1. switch for the rear window heater and exterior rear-view mirrors; 2. speed controller on/off switch; 3. switch «Hiver» (Winter) on cars with automatic transmission; 4. headlight corrector
Selector lever position indicator on vehicles with automatic transmission
Position «R» - the drive wheels are automatically blocked. To move the lever from position «R» You must first press the brake pedal. When stopping the car, the selector lever must be set to the position «R».
It is very important to set the selector lever to the position «R» when placing the vehicle on a slope.
When operating the vehicle under normal conditions, set the selector lever to the position «D». in this case, four gears are switched automatically from low to higher and vice versa, depending on the engine load, vehicle speed and the selected driving style.
To save fuel when operating the vehicle, press the accelerator pedal smoothly and lightly, thereby engaging higher gears early and shifting to lower gears later.
If, with the selector lever in position «D» Frequent switching occurs from 3rd to 4th gear and vice versa, it is recommended to select a position «3» or even «2».
It is not recommended to use positions 3, 2 and 1 and the program «Hiver» (Winter) outside of emergencies.
Program «Sport»
When choosing «sports» mode, the engine power reserves are fully used due to some delay in switching to a higher gear. To turn on this program, press the switch located at the end of the handle, and the indicator lamp will light up «S», located on the left side of the selector lever position indicator.
Program «Hiver» (winter)
When driving on roads with slippery areas or areas covered with ice and snow, turn on the program «Hiver», pressing the button located on the switch block to the left of the steering wheel, the indicator located on the right side of the selector lever position indicator will light up.
This position ensures that only 2nd gear is engaged, regardless of the position in which the selector lever is installed. After overcoming a slippery area, be sure to turn off the program «Hiver».
KICK-DOWN forced downshift device.
The device provides maximum vehicle acceleration under given driving conditions. After pressing the accelerator pedal all the way, depending on the rotation speed and driving speed, the vehicle switches to one of the lower gears. Shifting to the next higher gear will occur only when the maximum permissible engine speed is reached. On slippery roads, forced preemptive downshifting may cause the drive wheels to slip.
