Removal and installation
On the road, it is difficult to remove the thermostat, since it is necessary to completely drain the coolant. In addition, with a hot engine, this process takes a very long time, since it is necessary to wait until the coolant has cooled down. When replacing the thermostat, you must also install a new o-ring in which the thermostat is located in the radiator hose (engine type «WITH») or in the body (engine type «F»), and a new thermostat housing gasket.
1. Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank to bring the pressure in the cooling system to atmospheric pressure.
Attention! Attention! Unscrew with a thick rag so as not to get burned!
2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose, drain 2-3 liters of coolant into a clean container.
3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant pump (engine type «WITH») or from the thermostat housing (engine type «F») and from the cylinder head.
4. Motor type «WITH»: cut off the factory clamps with a knife.
5. Move the sticky thermostat by squeezing the radiator hose. Please note how it was installed (the direction of fluid flow is important!).
6. Before installation, clean the thermostat attachment point in the hose from scale. Then install the thermostat and fix its position with a threaded collar.
7. Motor type «F»: Unscrew the 3 screws of the thermostat housing and carefully remove the thermostat housing.
8. If the body does not give in, help yourself by hitting with your hand.
9. Unclench the safety clamp of the thermostat, remove the thermostat and the sealing ring from the housing.
10. Before installation, clean the sealing surfaces of sealant residues. Then apply a layer of sealant on them (e.g. Loctite 518) not more than 1 mm thick.
Thermostat check
Using a thermometer, you can check for yourself whether the thermostat actually turns on at the required temperature.
1. Disconnect the thermostat.
2. Place the thermostat in a container of water and heat the water.
3. Check that the valve lifts out of its seat at the required temperature.
Do engine type «WITH» The thermostat is located in the upper radiator hose and is clamped there between two hose clamps (shown by arrow).
For engines of the type «F» the thermostat in the housing is bolted to the front side of the engine. The coolant pumped by the pump through the engine flows after the thermostat through the upper hose back to the radiator.
