Since the coolant pump on the C engine and all F engines is driven by a V-belt, servicing the cooling system also includes checking the V-belt tension. You can find a description of this work in the section Generator.

V-belt breakage

If you continue driving after a V-belt breaks and, accordingly, with a non-working coolant pump, you risk seriously damaging the engine! Although cold coolant is heavier than warm, without a coolant pump, circulation is very slow and will not be enough to fully cool the engine. How to install a new V-belt, you can read in the section Generator.

Note: Recommendation: since driving with a torn V-belt on a Renault 19 is impossible, you should always have a spare belt in the car.
