Removing
1. The transmission fluid cooler is located on the top wall of the transmission. To gain access to the cooler, remove the air filter assembly (Chapter Power systems, release).
2. To minimize coolant loss, pinch the hoses near the cooler. You can also drain the liquid from the cooling system as described in Chapter Maintenance.
3. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the cooler. Be prepared for coolant to come out. Rinse spilled liquid with cold water and dry surrounding area before proceeding.
4. Turn away fixing bolts and remove a cooler from transmission. Line the cooler with a clean rag to catch any spilled liquid. Seal open openings to keep dirt out of the system.
5. Remove the sealing rings from the mounting bolts and the seals installed between the cooler and the transmission - they must be replaced.
Installation
1. Lubricate the new seals with clean transmission fluid, then install two seals on the cooler base and one seal on each mounting bolt.
2. Install the cooler on the transmission being careful not to dislodge the bottom seals. Establish fixing bolts and tighten them the effort resulted in Specifications.
3. Connect the cooling system hoses to the cooler and securely tighten their clamps. Remove clamps from hoses.
4. Install the air filter assembly as described in Chapter Power systems, release.
5. Finally, bring the fluid level in the cooling system to normal and check the transmission fluid level as described in Section Schedule of ongoing maintenance in Chapter Maintenance.
