Note: After replacing any of the electronic transmission control components, the transmission no-load/full-load position must be reset. This will require special diagnostic equipment (Renault XR25). Leave this work to a Renault service station.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (on Scenic models, refer to Chapter Engine electrical equipment).

Warning: If the car radio in your car is coded, make sure you know the code before disconnecting the battery.

Multifunctional switch

1. The multifunction switch tells the electronic control unit what position the drive mode selector lever is in, prevents the engine from starting in all modes except drive, prevents the engine from starting in all modes except P and N, and controls the reversing lights. The switch is mounted on the rear of the transmission, above the left drive shaft.

2. To remove the switch, follow the wiring from it to the connector and disconnect it.

3. Loosen the mounting bolt and remove the clamp plate. Loosen the ground cable bolt, then remove the switch from the transmission along with the sealing ring.

Transmission flap potentiometer

1. Refer to Chapter Power supply and exhaust systems.

Speed sensor

1. The speed sensor is mounted on top of the transmission.

2. For easier access, remove the air cleaner assembly and its mounting bracket as described in Chapter Power supply and exhaust systems.

3. Trace the wiring from the sensor and disconnect its connector.

4. Loosen the mounting bolt and remove the clamp bar, then remove the sensor from the transmission together with the sealing ring.

Hydraulic line pressure sensor

1. The hydraulic line pressure sensor is installed in the base of the transmission in the front part of the block.

2. To access the sensor, apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the car and place it on axle stands. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the plastic lower cover.

3. Trace the wiring from the sensor and disconnect its connector.

4. Be prepared for fluid to come out when removing the sensor. Remove the bolts and the sensor mounting plate. Remove the sensor and discard the O-ring.

Electronic control device

1. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is located in the front left corner of the engine compartment where it is attached to the battery.

2. Loosen the rubber retaining strap, then disconnect the wiring connectors and remove the ECU from the engine compartment.

Installation

1. Install in reverse order. Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable and have a technician reset the transmission to the no-load/full-load position.
