1. Set the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Remove the heat shields to gain access to the gear selector assembly.

2. Remove the center console as described in Chapter Body.

3. Remove the air cleaner assembly (refer to Chapter Power supply and exhaust systems).

4. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission lever by releasing the clips and removing the end from the hinge.

5. Make sure the cable is attached to the lever assembly as required, then rotate the cable locking ring to release the adjustment sleeve.

6. Place the drive mode selector lever and the transmission lever in 1st gear.

7. Attach the end of the cable to the joint on the transmission (but don't put it on at this stage) and make sure the components fit together as required. If not, adjust the cable length by turning the sleeve. Once finished, install the end on the hinge and lock the adjusting sleeve by turning the ring.

8. Install the cable mounting brackets.

9. Install the center console as described in Chapter Body.

10. Check that the drive mode selector lever moves freely and that the starter operates only in the "P" and "N" positions. Also check the parking function.

11. Install the heat shields, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
