Note. When installing, use a new toothed belt.
Gland from the side of the drive belt
1. Remove the camshaft gear as described in Section Removal, inspection and installation of the gear wheel of the toothed drive belt and the tension mechanism.
2. Sketch the installation depth of the oil seal, then drill two small holes in it opposite each other. Screw self-tapping screws into them and remove the oil seal with pliers.
On some models it may be necessary to remove the inner upper toothed belt cover. In this case, remove the tensioner and intermediate pulleys (refer to Section Removal, inspection and installation of the gear wheel of the toothed drive belt and the tension mechanism), then unscrew the cover.
3. Clean the gland housing and remove any nicks or burrs with sandpaper that may be causing damage to the gland.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal and position it on the end of the shaft. Drive the gland into the casing to the previously noted depth. If the shaft surface has been heavily worn out, drive the new oil seal a little deeper into the housing so that the sealing lip rubs against the unworn area of the shaft.
5. Where necessary, install the inner toothed belt top cover, then install the tensioner and idler pulleys as described in Section Removal, inspection and installation of the gear wheel of the toothed drive belt and the tension mechanism.
6. Install the camshaft gear as described in Section Removal, inspection and installation of the gear wheel of the toothed drive belt and the tension mechanism and install a new toothed drive belt as described in Section Removal, inspection and installation of a toothed drive belt.
Flywheel/drive plate side oil seal - F3R engines
1. Disconnect the wiring from the camshaft position sensor, then unscrew the mounting screws and remove the sensor cover from the cylinder head. Remove the sensor gear ring from the end of the camshaft.
2. Remove the insulating plate to gain access to the gland.
3. Sketch the depth of the oil seal, then drill two small holes in it opposite each other. Screw self-tapping screws into them and remove the oil seal with pliers.
4. Clean the gland housing and use emery paper to remove any nicks or burrs that may be causing damage to the gland.
6. Install the insulating plate and install the toothed ring and camshaft position sensor housing.
