2. On the K7M engine, remove the ignition coils from the valve cover, as described in Chapter Engine electrical equipment, then disconnect the high voltage wires from the spark plugs, and unscrew the high voltage wire holder from the valve cover.
3a. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hoses from the valve cover (refer to illustrations) - big (to air filter)...
3b.... and small (to intake manifold).
4a. Turn away bolts.
4b. On the K7M engine, the right bolts are threaded in the upper part, the ignition coil is attached to them (refer to illustrations).
4c. Remove the valve cover.
4d. And a pad.
5. Remove spark plugs (Chapter Replacing spark plugs and checking the ignition system), to make the engine turn over more easily.
6. Draw the location of the valves on a piece of paper, numbering them on the flywheel side from 1 to 4 for intake and exhaust according to the cylinders (those. 1E, 1I, 2E, 2I and so on). The intake valves are on the intake manifold side of the cylinder head and the exhaust valves are on the exhaust manifold side.
7. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the #1 cylinder exhaust valve is fully open (i.e. the valve spring will be fully compressed).
8a. Insert a feeler gauge of the correct thickness (talk to Specifications) between cylinder #3 inlet valve stem and end of rocker arm. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut on the rocker arm using a ring wrench.
8b. Turn the adjustment screw with a small double end wrench or pliers until you reach the correct gap.
8c. While holding the adjustment screw, tighten the locknut (it is recommended to use a torque wrench to avoid screw thread distortion) and recheck the adjustment (refer to illustrations). Repeat the adjustment procedure on the #4 cylinder exhaust valve. Please note that the valve clearances for intake and exhaust valves are different.
9. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until exhaust valve #3 is fully open. Adjust the intake #4 and exhaust #2 valve clearances. Continue adjusting valve clearances in the following sequence.
10. Remove socket or wrench from crankshaft pulley bolt.
11. Install spark plugs as described in Section Replacing spark plugs and checking the ignition system. Install the valve cover, using a new gasket where necessary, and evenly tighten the mounting bolts to the specifications in Specifications effort. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose.
12. On the K7M engine, install the ignition coil low voltage wiring and high voltage wire holder, then connect the high voltage wires to the spark plugs.
13. On the E7J engine, install the gas pedal cable and holder, then the air filter assembly.
