2. On the K7M engine, remove the ignition coils from the valve cover as described in Chapter Engine electrical equipment, then disconnect the high tension wires from the spark plugs, and unscrew the high tension wire holder from the valve cover.

3a. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hoses from the valve cover (refer to the illustrations) - big (to the air filter)...

3b.... and small (to the intake manifold).

4a. Loosen the bolts.

4b. On the K7M engine, the right bolts have threads at the top, the ignition coil is attached to them (refer to the illustrations).

4c. Remove the valve cover.

4d. And the gasket.
5. Remove the spark plugs (Section Replacing spark plugs and checking the ignition system) to make the engine turn over more easily.
6. Draw the location of the valves on a piece of paper, numbering them from the flywheel side from 1 to 4 for the intake and exhaust according to the cylinders (i.e. 1E, 1I, 2E, 2I and so on). The intake valves are located on the intake manifold side of the cylinder head, and the exhaust valves are located on the exhaust manifold side.
7. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the exhaust valve of cylinder No.1 is fully open (that is, the valve spring will be fully compressed).

8a. Insert the feeler gauge of the correct thickness (refer to Specifications) between the intake valve stem of cylinder #3 and the end of the rocker arm. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the lock nut on the rocker arm using a socket wrench.

8b. Turn the adjustment screw with a small double-ended wrench or pliers until the correct clearance is achieved.

8c. While holding the adjustment screw, tighten the lock nut (it is recommended to use a torque wrench to avoid distortion of the screw threads) and recheck the adjustment (refer to the illustrations). Repeat the adjustment procedure on the exhaust valve of cylinder #4. Note that the valve clearances for the intake and exhaust valves are different.
9. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the exhaust valve No.3 is fully open. Adjust the clearances of the intake No.4 and exhaust No.2 valves. Continue adjusting the valve clearances in the following sequence.
10. Remove the socket or wrench from the crankshaft pulley bolt.
11. Install the spark plugs as described in Section Replacing spark plugs and checking the ignition system. Install the valve cover, using a new gasket where necessary, and tighten the mounting bolts evenly to the specifications shown Specifications force. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose.
12. On the K7M engine, install the low-voltage ignition coil wiring and the high-voltage wire holder, then connect the high-voltage wires to the spark plugs.
13. On the E7J engine, install the gas pedal cable and holder, then the air filter assembly.
