Note: When installing, use a new pan gasket or suitable sealant (where it is applied).
Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Warning: If the car radio in your car is coded, make sure you know the code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Drain the engine oil, then install and tighten the drain plug as specified Specifications by effort (use a new washer).
3. Jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands. Where applicable, remove the lower engine shield.
4. Unscrew the reinforcing rod (where is available) between the front suspension domes.
5. On F8Q engines, remove the mounting bolts and the upper plastic drive belt/right engine mount cover. On F9Q engines, remove the mounting nuts and the engine sound cover.
6. Use a winch to support the weight of the engine/transmission.
7. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust manifold/muffler downpipe to the exhaust manifold. Separate the downpipe and support it.
8. Remove the flywheel bracket/cover. Note that one of the bolts secures the rear mount bracket to the transmission, and you will need a box wrench to remove the bolts securing the bracket to the engine.
9. Remove the brackets securing the power steering hydraulic pipe to the right side of the subframe.
10. Remove the nut securing the upper right engine mount bracket to the travel limiter/rubber engine mount assembly on the body.
11. Raise the engine enough to allow removal of the oil pan.
12. Remove the bolts securing the pan to the cylinder block, but leave the two diagonally opposite ones.
13. Separate the pan from the base of the cylinder block. Do not use a screwdriver, as it may damage the contact surfaces.
14. Remove the two remaining bolts and lower the pan. Remove the gasket where applicable.
15. Clean the cylinder block and sump from any remaining gasket or sealant.
Installation
1. Check the cleanliness of the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block.
2. Where fitted, position a new gasket on the sump, or if there is no gasket, apply a 1mm wide sealant - Renault recommends Rhodorseal 5661 - to the mating surface of the sump (on the outside of the pallet groove).
3. If a gasket is not used, it is important to position the pan so that it does not have to be moved again after the sealant touches the engine block. Long bolts or pins can be used as guides.
4. To prevent oil from dripping from the oil pump and cylinder block, wipe these areas before installing the pan.
5. Press the pan against the cylinder block, then insert the bolts and tighten them gradually to the specified Specifications effort.
6. Lower the engine, then install and tighten the right engine mount nut.
7. Install the power steering line holders.
8. Install the flywheel/drive plate reinforcement bracket cover and tighten the mounting bolts.
9. Install the exhaust/converter downpipe and tighten the bolts.
10. Remove the winch and install the upper plastic drive belt/right engine mount cover or sound deadening cover where equipped.
11. Where applicable, install the reinforcement rod between the front suspension domes and tighten the bolts.
12. Connect the battery, then lower the car to the ground.
13. Fill the engine with fresh oil.
