Note. This procedure only applies to engines with an intermediate shaft (talk to Specifications).
1. Remove the gear wheel of the intermediate shaft as described in Section Removal from the installation of gear wheels of the drive belt and tension mechanism.
2. Mark the installation depth of the oil seal, then drill two small holes in it opposite each other.
Insert a self-tapping screw into each hole with pliers and remove the oil seal.
Note. On some models it may be necessary to remove the lower inner drive belt cover.
3. Clean the stuffing box casing, sandpaper to remove burrs and bumps that could cause damage to the stuffing box.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal and install it on the shaft end. Drive the gland into the casing to the previously noted depth. Please note that if the surface of the shaft at the place where the gland touches was heavily developed, a new gland must be inserted into the casing a little deeper.
5. Where necessary, install the inner toothed belt cover, and then the intermediate pulley and crankshaft gear as described in Section Removal from the installation of gear wheels of the drive belt and tension mechanism.
6. Establish a gear wheel of an intermediate shaft as it is described in Section Removal from the installation of gear wheels of the drive belt and tension mechanism and a new toothed drive belt as described in Section Removal, inspection and installation of a toothed drive belt.
