Models with a gasoline engine 1.4 and 1.6 l
Removing
1. Drain the liquid from the cooling system.
2. Remove toothed drive belt (see chapter Engine repair).
3. Turn away bolts of fastening and remove assembly of the pump from the engine. Note the location of the pump dowel pins and remove them if they are loose.
Installation
1a. Clean and dry the contact surfaces of the pump and cylinder block.
1b. Then apply a layer of sealant to the sealing surface of the pump (Renault recommends the use of Lostite 518) thickness 0.6 - 1.0 mm (refer to accompanying illustration).
2. Ensure that the dowel pins are each in their original position, then move the pump to the operating position. Install pump bolts and tighten securely.
3. Install the toothed drive belt (contact the head Engine repair).
4. Fill the cooling system.
Models with 2.0L petrol engine
Removing
1. Drain the liquid from the cooling system.
2. Jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the right front wheel and its arch insert
3. Loosen the three bolts securing the water pump pulley, then remove the auxiliary drive belt as described in Chapter Maintenance (refer to accompanying illustration).
4. Turn away bolts of fastening and remove a pulley of the pump.
5. Remove the bolts securing the pump to the cylinder block and remove the pump from the block (refer to accompanying illustration). If the pump cannot be removed, tap it with a mallet. Remove the pad.
Installation
1. Begin installation by thoroughly cleaning the mating surfaces of the pump and cylinder block.
2. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- a) Use a new pump gasket.
- b) Install and tighten the auxiliary drive belt as described in Chapter Maintenance.
- With) Finally, fill the cooling system (Chapter Maintenance).
Diesel models
Removing
1. Remove the auxiliary drive belt (Chapter Maintenance), after loosening the bolts securing the water pump pulley.
2. Drain the liquid from the cooling system (contact the head Maintenance).
3. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the drive belt pulley from the water pump (refer to accompanying illustration).
4a. Turn away bolts of fastening.
4b. Then move the water pump out of working position (refer to illustrations). Note the location of the pump dowel pins and remove them if they are loose. Remove the pump gasket - it must be replaced.
Installation
1. Clean and dry the mating surfaces of the pump, casing, and cylinder block, and place the dowel pins each in their original position.
2. Install a new gasket and install the pump assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts.
3. Install the water pump pulley, then the drive belt and tighten it as described in Chapter Maintenance. Tighten the pulley bolts.
4. Fill the cooling system (contact the head Maintenance).
