Removal and installation of a final collector
Removing the exhaust manifold
1. Place the vehicle on a two post lift.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Unscrew the fastening bolts and remove the engine protective tray.
4. Remove the components of the exhaust gas recirculation system.
5. Remove the turbocharger (see relevant section earlier in this chapter).
6. Loosen the nuts (1) and remove the exhaust manifold.
7. Mark the position of the exhaust manifold gasket.
8. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
Installing the exhaust manifold
Note: Replace the exhaust manifold gasket with a new one after each removal.
1. Using fine sandpaper, clean the contact surfaces of the exhaust manifold (if reused) and cylinder block.
Note: If the threaded studs were loosened when removing the exhaust manifold, apply a high-strength locking compound to their threads and tighten to 9 Nm.
2. Install a new exhaust manifold gasket in the position marked before removal.
3. Install the exhaust manifold.
4. Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown in the figure to a torque of 26 Nm.
5. Install the turbocharger.
6. Install the components of the exhaust gas recirculation system.
7. Rubber muffler mounting hanger (Mot. 1857).
7. Install the engine protection tray.
8. Connect the negative battery terminal.
