Removal and installation the catalytic converter



Removal the catalytic converter



1. Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Remove the engine cover.

4. Remove the air filter unit.

5. Remove the front right wheel from the vehicle.

6. Loosen the nuts (1) securing the catalytic converter to the turbocharger.

6. Loosen the nuts (1) securing the catalytic converter to the turbocharger.


7. Unscrew the fasteners (2) from the exhaust flange.

7. Unscrew the fasteners (2) from the exhaust flange.


8. Move the exhaust pipe to the side.

9. Loosen the bolts (3) securing the catalytic converter to the upper pillar.

9. Loosen the bolts (3) securing the catalytic converter to the upper pillar.


10. Loosen the bolts (4) securing the upper strut to the engine.



11. Loosen the bolts (5) and remove the lower pillar.

12. Remove the catalytic converter from the engine.

Installation of a catalytic converter



Attention:
  • All damaged heat shields must be replaced with new ones.
  • The seal between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter must be in perfect condition.
  • All removed seals must be replaced with new ones.
  • Be careful not to damage the catalytic converter during removal and installation.

1. Tighten the turbocharger threaded studs to 9 Nm.

2. Install the catalytic converter.

3. Tighten the fasteners in the following sequence until contact is made:
  • upper engine strut bolts;
  • lower strut bolts on gearbox;
  • upper strut bolts on catalytic converter;
  • lower strut bolts on catalytic converter;
  • nuts securing the catalytic converter to the turbocharger.

4. Tighten the fasteners to the specified tightening torques in the following sequence:
  • nuts securing the catalytic converter to the turbocharger with a torque of 26 Nm;
  • upper strut mounting bolts on the engine with a torque of 44 Nm;
  • lower gearbox strut mounting bolts torque 21 Nm;
  • upper strut mounting bolts on the catalytic converter with a torque of 26 Nm;
  • bolts for fastening the lower catalytic converter stand with a torque of 21 Nm.

Note: Make sure there is no contact between the catalytic converter and the turbocharger oil return line.




5. Tighten the exhaust pipe bracket bolts to 21 N·m.

6. Ensure that all exhaust pipe heat shields are in place and installed correctly.

7. Make sure that there is no contact between the exhaust pipe and the bottom of the vehicle.

8. Install the front right wheel on the vehicle.

9. Install the air filter unit.

10. Install the engine cover.

11. Connect the negative battery terminal.
