In this system, the engine immobilizer is activated a few seconds after the ignition is turned off (this is accompanied by a flashing red warning light for the electronic engine immobilizer system and the electric steering column lock).
The system includes:
- two Renault A cards, with special coded electronic circuits for controlling the engine immobilizer system;
- only one of the Renault cards can be equipped with the function «free hands»;
- you can also register two additional cards (but not more than four);
- an engine immobilizer receiver located in reader B and equipped with an electronic circuit for transmitting the Renault card code to UCH C;
- The UCH located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
Note. The Renault card reader is non-coded.
To block the start of the engine, the CEC provides the following functions:
- decoding the Renault card signal coming from the reader;
- control of the engine start blocking system by transmitting a code to the electric steering column lock;
- communication with the injection computer;
- control of turning on and off the red warning light of the electronic engine immobilizer system and the backlight of the reader;
- communication with the diagnostic device;
- The red engine immobilizer warning light D, located on the instrument panel, serves to indicate:
- activation of the electronic engine blocking system;
- failure to recognize the Renault card;
- system failure;
- malfunctions of the injection computer or electric steering column lock;
- Injection ECU with code E entered;
- diagnostic connector G, used for troubleshooting and system configuration;
- electric steering column lock with code F entered;
- clutch and shift lever position sensors I and engine start button H to supply power to the starter.
Operating principle
When the engine immobilizer system is activated, the red system warning light flashes (slowly, one flash per second). The electric steering column lock is locked.
After inserting the Renault card into the reader, the card code is transmitted to the UCH.
If the code is recognized by the UCH, the latter sends a coded signal to the electric steering lock via the multiplex network.
If the encoded signal received by the electric lock is identical to the one stored in its memory, the latter unlocks the steering column and sends a confirmation signal to the UCH.
Upon receipt of this signal, the UCH closes the target «+» after the ignition switch and turns off the red signal lamp of the engine immobilizer system.
When the ignition is switched on, the UCH and the injection computer exchange coded signals via the multiplex network.
If the signals sent by the UCH and the injection computer agree, the UCH allows the engine to start and the injection system is enabled.
Special cases
If no reference code is stored in the memory of the injection computer or the electric steering lock, the transmitted code is stored in 8th memory.
If the code in the UCH and the Renault card code do not match, the system remains blocked. Red signal lamp flashes (fast). The engine is not allowed to start and the electric steering column lock remains locked.
If the signal lamp lights up permanently, while «+» after the ignition switch is missing, this indicates a malfunction of the electric steering column lock.
If the signal lamp lights up permanently, while «+» after the ignition switch is present, this indicates a malfunction of the injection system.
Attention! If the battery is not sufficiently charged, a voltage drop during starter operation can again activate the engine immobilizer system. If the battery voltage is too low, the engine cannot be started even by pushing the vehicle.
