Malfunction | Her reason | Trouble-shooting |
A. When braking, the car pulls in one direction. | 1. Unequal tire pressure. 2. Unevenly worn tire tread.
| Equalize tire pressure. Swap tires between each other so that each axle has equally worn tires. Replace brake pads. Rebore discs or drums, replace if necessary. Sand clean. Restore mobility or repair the caliper. Restore mobility or replace the brake cylinder.
|
B.The squeal of brakes. | 1. Resonant noise between brake disc and pads. 2. Brake pads worn or hardened. 3. See A 4 and 8.4. 4. Loose fit of new brake pads. | Replace outer brake pads. Replace pads.
|
C. Squealing brakes, brake pedal pulsing. | 1. The brake discs have been ground off, damaged or the remnants of worn brake pads have stuck to them. Excessive runout of the brake disc or wheel hub. 2. See A 3 and 7. 3. Brake drums have lateral or vertical runout or their working surfaces are damaged. | Grind discs or replace. If necessary, replace the hub and possibly the wheel bearing. Rebore or replace brake drums. |
D. The rear wheels are blocked. | 1. See A 7, 9 and 10. 2. The braking surfaces of the drums are rusty or have major marks on them. 3. The surface of the brake pads is badly damaged. 4. Insufficient effective braking of the front wheels, see A 4-6. | Rebore or replace brake drums. Replace pads. |
E.Brakes get hot, but not fully released. | 1. Hydraulic pressurized system. All wheels have a hard ride: A) no gap between brake pedal (barbell) and pistons of the main brake cylinder; b) faulty brake booster; V) the master brake cylinder is defective. 2. Brake circuit under pressure. One of the front wheels and, presumably, the opposite rear wheel are hard to move: the compensating hole in the master brake cylinder is clogged. 3. Jammed brake mechanics. One or two wheels on the same axle have a hard ride: A) see A 4-8; b) the parking brake does not release. 4. Swollen rubber parts due to the use of unsuitable brake fluid. | Check: Raise the car, turn the wheels. Check clearance.
Replace. Clean out. Check that the parking brake is properly adjusted. |
F.Too much brake pedal travel. | 1. Worn drum brake pads. 2. See A 5. | Replace. |
G.Too much brake pedal travel; When you press the pedal, it bounces back and forth. | 1. Air in the brake system, possibly due to the fact that the brake fluid level in the reservoir has dropped too low. Causes: A) leakage of the brake system; b) Leakage of cuffs of the main brake cylinder. 2. Too hot brake fluid, formation of steam bubbles due to too much water in the brake fluid and excessive brake loads. 3. See A 6 and 7. 4. See C 3. | Check and replace defective parts. Replace master brake cylinder. Change the brake fluid. |
H.Insufficiently effective braking with strong pressure on the brake pedal. | 1. Normal brake pedal travel: A) Brake pads are oily, burnt or very hard; b) see A 4 and 8. 2. Short Pedal Travel: brake booster or vacuum pump does not work (diesel). 3. Long Pedal Travel: | Replace pads.
